Yo. *holds up hands* we’ve been busy (quiet on here). Man, it’s tough these days. It’s easy to get lost in the day. Caught up in the routine. Too often we’re finding this out lately as we become busier and busier with our personal lives that the amount of time we can commit to Y&Y is falling. Career changes, moves abroad and life getting in the way. This’ll change soon though, so watch this space. In the meantime, Samsung and Three UK approached us last month (yes, that’s how behind we are on things) asking if we’d like to take the new Samsung Galaxy S7 for a spin. I’m a bit of a tech lover myself, but I’ve never liked Samsung phones nor has Y&Y done much in the tech space. Still, it gave us an opportunity to talk about something we strive to do when in our creative bubble. Capture those moments that mean something to you, every day. And the beauty of a great camera on a mobile phone is that it becomes so much easier to do so.
While we love technology and the new, we get just as excited about heritage brands and products with history, just have a look at our work with Levi’s or the story of how we’ve attempted to Make History. This time we’ve been given the opportunity to work with another brand that we’ve admired for a long time. If you don’t know already, Red Wing is an American brand rooted in uncompromising craftsmanship, with over 100 years of practice in the art of designing and producing footwear that’s made to last. With two pairs of boots and a woodland to explore, Adam and I put their hard work to the test.
The city at night is a jungle. The constant battles. The constant pressures. The challenges, the environment, the elements. The need to adapt, the need to face your fears, the need to take one step be ready for the next. Stay hidden. Stay visible. Embrace the jungle and keep going.
It’s been quite slow on the features front lately, we’ve been busy with well… life! But on the flipside we’ve also been creating so things will be picking up again shortly. Anywho, in support of their Spring Summer collection for 2014, the guys over at Farah reached out to us to put together a series of looks for them. As a great opportunity to create good content was thrown our way, we were happy to get involved. More after the break.
Born out of passion for clean modernist design and meticulous detail, the debut Notch London collection is a strong mix of key wardrobe staples – shirts, jackets, soft jerseys, denim and clean outerwear. When they got in touch with us to give us our spin on their collection, we fell short of ideas – especially since much of our narratives play off brand’s histories and past. That’s where we’re forced to be creative, Y&Y’s always been about more than just posting photographs for the sake of it. It’s always about the team – the shift from a blogging platform to a platform where we can showcase what we create has been in place for a year. It’s forced us to work more as a unit to bring the features to life.
Every four years, at a pre-determined location, the world gathers to feast on a celebration of culture and sport. The stage is built higher than any other in existence. The biggest show on earth, they say, is ready to begin again.
As twenty-somethings in the creative industry, we find that there is no structured path, when it comes to securing our dream job. Yes university does help, but it is the first step because we all know when you graduate, the real work begins. Yet somehow we push the fact that it may take until the end of time to achieve our goals to the back of our minds, as we dive into the pool of free labour and uncertainty. But Cherelle Brown, Accessories Designer and Founder of unisex bag line IAMQING gives us hope, showing that we have the power to create our own opportunities instead of waiting for them to approach us which is very much what we believe in. As we style a few looks with her latest collection Cherelle tells us how much family plays a big part in supporting your dream. For she believes that taking risks and remaining humble are a few keys to gaining success.
