How many restaurants have you spent the last few years saying you must visit? How often does a place get mentioned in conversation and you find yourself saying, “I’ve heard it’s great, I’ve been meaning to go!” Well The London Restaurant Festival, now in its fourth year, is here to help you cram all those restaurants you’ve been dying to visit into a one day tour all throughout October. Tapas tours, Chinese tours, Japanese tours, Champagne themed, you name it, they’ve got it covered. The awesome Tiger Beer invited us to Chinatown to check out their tour of 6 restaurants in 6 hours. I’m going to stop here and you’re going to read on because I know you can’t resist the food photography that’s going to follow!
Yin here! before I hand off to DJB who’s our very own in-house Ainsley Harriet in the making. We’ve been quiet on the site front, mainly my fault due to home renovation and lack of wifi. All to change this week with a travel competition and a few features coming your way. From a site that started off writing about street culture to all things that we liked and as we grew as people, the site did too. That’s why I’m proud to present our first family cooking feature. I’ll let DJB takeover from here…
It’s about damn time we shared another food feature, the last one was released all the way back in April when I headed down to Dante’s Fried Chicken pop-up in Shoreditch. Not quite sure why we haven’t done any more since then especially since I spend most of my monthly earnings eating out with my other half. It’s sad but true, however good food is always worth the money. When the good folks behind the Carribean inspired beach shack The Rum Kitchen spotted that piece on Dante – they asked us to come down and have a taste of what they had to offer. We were never going to turn down an invitation like that, come on now.
Earlier this year, I was invited by Donald Russell to their head quarters in Inverurie, Aberdeen. For those who aren’t sure, Donald Russell is one of the biggest mail order butcheries in the UK and having been in business for over 40 years- their product range keeps expanding, offering meat, poultry, fish, game, ready meals, pastas, the lot. Though they sell plenty of stock online, they also provide for some of the top hotels around the world; so if you’ve stayed in any luxury hotels, it’s likely you would have eaten some of their products. Check out what happened when the guys over at Donald Russell invited us down to see what goes on in the world of butchery.
One of the plus points of the site being on hiatus during development was the free time, it opened up a whole world of opportunities to shoot new content and learn more about what we enjoyed. Whisky is definitely the drink of choice here at Yin&Yang, why? because of Mad Men. I kid, because of Yang – our very own whisky connoisseur but my own liking of the drink is down to the TV show and my family. For as long as I can remember, there has always been a bottle of Chivas Regal in my house. From my Grandaddy’s days till right now in my Dad’s drinks cabinet. More after the cut folks.
Dante’s Fried Chicken, goodness me. Derek and I headed down to the press brunch last Sunday and here I am almost a week later, still reminiscing the taste of that chicken. It’s another league to any fried chicken that I’ve had in London in the past. Perfect texture, moisture, crispyness – you name it. I’m dreaming about chicken.
I don’t know about you but I love breakfast. When I wake up in the morning though I rarely have time for more than a bowl of cereal and a banana, the opportunity to eat out then is always a delight. When visiting No.11 Pimlico Road the delights don’t stop at the food, the newly refurbished Chelsea space makes for a fabulous experience from dawn into dusk.
