Too busy gallivanting in Europe and Asia, it’s been a while since we took to the streets of London with a commitment to capturing its heart and soul. So it was a welcomed surprise when New Amsterdam Vodka, a new premium vodka imported from the US, threw us back into the familiar streets to capture not one but two transitory London districts for their new campaign. #ItsYourTown is ultimately a celebration of your city, from a brand that’s all about modern city nightlife. Peckham was our first stop, and whether it’s constructed by episodes of Only Fools and Horses, Giggs lyrics or your “trendy” friends anecdotes, everyone has a picture of this South London district. So what is it really like?
Many professional athletes find a name for themselves in their sport from starting at the very bottom. Learning and finessing their sport outside of the professional environment, where anything goes, and there’s no association to tell them what they can and can’t do. In the world of basketball, the very bottom of playing the sport is in streetball – an amateur version of the game that is played out on the city streets by those who have a passion for the game like no other. Streetball tends to be an unorganised, unique take on the sport of basketball, but there are tournaments out there to showcase this amateur side of the game and give players the chance to showcase what they can do. Quai54 is an annual gathering in Paris, France to showcase the Nike x Jordan World Streetball Championships. When Nike invited us out to Paris to check it out, I couldn’t refuse. Unfortunately I’ve lost the majority of my coverage of both Q54 and the Jordan 30 year anniversary celebrations. Memories remain, but apologies for the lack of coverage.
There’s more than one side to every story. If you want the full picture, you need to know more than one side. You need to see more than one side and you need to experience them. Only then can you put the pieces together. Travel is becoming a big passion of ours here at Y&Y, whether we’re exploring Asia, visiting spectacular European cities, or even doing something a bit more spontaneous, we love to document our journeys and tell a story. On The Beach is one of the UK’s leading holiday providers, sending over a million people to sunny locations across Europe every year. One of their most popular destinations is Mallorca. A beautiful island in the Spanish Mediterranean with it all to offer. We were invited to experience Mallorca at a 4* hotel in the party capital of the island. The BH Mallorca was our base in the heart of Magaluf and we set out to discover the full story of this Spanish island.
Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down and i’d like to take a minute just sit right there i’ll tell you how I my weekend in Monaco had me floating in the air. Please excuse that cheesy start to the story but I wanted to start it off a little different. Any who as alluded to in the first sentence I have recently been to Monaco courtesy of the great people over at G.H.Mumm Champagne. This trip though was no ordinary trip because for those who don’t know Mumm are one of the sponsors of Formula One otherwise known as F1. Why does this matter? Well this particular weekend trip would enable me to experience my first ever live Grand Prix at one of the most iconic circuits in the world. Not too bad for a guy who sits behind a screen writing features in spare time right? Apologies in advance if the following induces mass jealousy, envy and awe but this was for journalistic purposes, I done it for you guys, honest! haha.
Believe it or not, there’s more to France than Paris, in the same way that there’s more to England than London. Chances are, like us, you’ve been missing out on a huge chunk of a beautiful country with so much to offer. On one end of the spectrum there are Mediterranean beaches and on the other the snowy French Alps. The Dordogne Valley fills the gap into between these two parallels with wondrous landscapes, quaint villages and esteemed French cuisine. Sit back and enjoy the view Through The Lens once again as we capture the beauty of Brive-la-Gaillarde.
After having Bespoke on repeat for a while, and impressed with his performance in support of George The Poet, we had to sit down and meet this London local. When we first approached Barney at Barbican Station, he was helping a lost out-of-towner find her way to St. Paul’s, a few minutes later he was helping a mother down the tube steps with a pram. It was almost as if things were being set up to make him seem like the nicest, most approachable, London rapper on the scene. As conversation immediately flowed we realised that there was no set up, he may genuinely be just that. But how did he end up supporting George? And what made him combine the sounds of grime and jazz? Find out as we sit down for a chat.
Every so often we need a bit of adventure in our lives. While we get lost in the 9-5, it’s easy to forget to explore new things, try something for the first time or challenge yourself. As we’ve said before, too often we get caught up in the busy city lifestyle, stuck behind our screens, and make little effort to adventure in to the great outdoors. So, when Mud House Wine, a brand built up from an adventurous spirit, asked to explore the incredible Forest of Dean, we packed our walking boots and headed for the pines with our cameras, open minds, and a #TasteforAdventure.
