‘Random Acts‘ is Channel 4‘s way of showcasing short films created by young people in the capital. Launched in October last year, you’ll find a range of artistic films spanning: spoken word, dance, animation, video art and music. Again I across a short film shot, directed and edited by ‘Daniels‘. It’s called Pockets, featuring a young poor guy unable to provide a meal for his girlfriend so he decides to go rob someone…and then some random sh*t happens! Again these guys produce a film that has no actual meaning, but rather a display of their skills as creatives and their dark sense of humour which i enjoy. Watch the film after the break.

I should have really wrote an Introducing post on Elle Varner mid last year but for what ever reason I didn’t. Still she did manage to grace the pages of Y&Y via our Eargasms post back in August with her J Cole assisted single ‘Only Wanna Give It To You’. While the world is awaiting her album Perfectly Imperfect following the success of the single the RCA signed singer has decided to release a mixtape entitled Conversational Lush to tide fans over until she is ready to release her debut studio offering. If you have never heard of Elle then I strongly suggest you read on and give the EP a listen. I don’t what has happened in the last year or so but there seems to be so many good artists with good real music bursting at the seams waiting to be unleashed on the charts (many of them being from the UK might i just add).

Technology is ever evolving and whilst we still enjoy the use of the stable household machinery we have become accustomed to and rely on the more portable pieces of tech. We feel the need to be able to do everything and anything whilst on the move or at least be able to take our equipment with us. This Akai MPC Fly is the latest gadgetry to aid music producers in their pursuit of a portable studio. Combining 16 backlit MPC pads into its built-in iPad 2 case, the MPC Fly is supported by an integrated iOS app which included various effects, a four-track mixer, sound library, sample editing and an EQ. Wannabe producers are sure to love this, do you?

Silence is golden, but it certainly is not a quality that many of us are used to when we think about 21st century cinema. It is often the famous film quotes, memorable dialogue and one liners from actors that we celebrate. Perhaps this is the reason why many Hollywood producers and critics were initially cynical about the success of Michael Hazabavicius’s latest black and white silent film ’The Artist’. But the film has proved them wrong. With 3 Golden globes, a Producers Guild award, 12 Bafta nominations and inevitable Oscar nominations to its name, ‘The Artist’ is enjoying huge success. I went to watch the film last week not really knowing what to expect but I certainly enjoyed what I felt was an ‘experience’ and came out feeling nostalgic about all that embodies 1920s cinema. Short review after the jump.

AMEN! I don’t really want to add any words to this post. I just want you ALL to watch and digest – this is dope quote (speech) for the week. With everything that’s going on around us – the corruption, hate, poor economic climate, wars and so on. That list could continue forever, depressing right? Charlie Chaplin was renowned for his B&W silent movie roles but he steps up and delivers one of the most poignant speeches I’ve ever heard in The Great Dictator. This film came out in 1940, scary that this is probably more relevant to current times. More on the reverse.

I’m a few days behind with all my posts but as the saying goes it’s better to be late than never right? Take a look at this lookbook from Burberry for their Black Label 2012 Spring/Summer Collection. The collection looks pretty cool but i’m not sure if that is because the lookbook is monochrome, I feel like things always look better when set to black and white. As with every Burberry collection a version of their classic trenchcoat makes an appearance alongside slim-fit blazers, pencil cut trousers and other pieces. The collection is exclusive to Japan however i’m sure there’ll be a way to get your hands on it should you be resourceful. Peep the rest of the collection after the break.
