Quite some time has passed since Yin’s introductory post on the Kooples brand. The French brand have certainly gone from strength to strength by establishing themselves in the upper echelons of British high street fashion with over 20 stores in London alone now, not to mention department store concessions. I have always been a big fan of the Kooples clothing and really value the few pieces I have bought from the store. The branding based on the couples theme has always been strong and instantly recognisable so it is perhaps not surprising that the direction for the branding of the new sport collection completely works too. Who better to have as a face of the French brands sport collection than the iconic Frenchman Eric Cantona? More after the cut

Last year, I wrote a post on the incredible Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale animations by Richard Swarbrick. Since then I have kept an eager eye out for Swarbrick’s work and today I came across another of his animation masterpieces on Sudanese-British NBA basketballer Luol Deng. Without repeating all the superlatives I did in my previous post, again I will say that this Deng animation is just breathtaking. Check it out after the jump.

These days it is quite rare to hear a song that instantly makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. So when you do, you need to sit up and pay attention. This is exactly how I felt when I heard ‘I want you‘, the debut single of New Orleans newcomer Luke James. The falsetto of the chorus is just wow. As for the video-well I can’t find words! Just hot. Peep the video after the jump.

Silence is golden, but it certainly is not a quality that many of us are used to when we think about 21st century cinema. It is often the famous film quotes, memorable dialogue and one liners from actors that we celebrate. Perhaps this is the reason why many Hollywood producers and critics were initially cynical about the success of Michael Hazabavicius’s latest black and white silent film ’The Artist’. But the film has proved them wrong. With 3 Golden globes, a Producers Guild award, 12 Bafta nominations and inevitable Oscar nominations to its name, ‘The Artist’ is enjoying huge success. I went to watch the film last week not really knowing what to expect but I certainly enjoyed what I felt was an ‘experience’ and came out feeling nostalgic about all that embodies 1920s cinema. After reading the very insightful and inspiring Jeff Staple collaboration post yesterday, I developed a deeper perspective on how we should all be open to collaboration and sharing our ideas/talents to create greatness. It also gave me a greater respect for brands who collaborate with others to create great products. Nike have always led the way in the sports world and have always been at the helm of creating products that have benefited from unique collaborations. So I decided to feature Gyakusou fall/winter high-performance running collection which is a collaboration between Nike and Japanese Undercover founder Jun Takahashi. With the recent launch of our new look site, I am happy to be finally doing the first post of my long awaited Unsung Heroes series. Around every star there is always a constellation of stars that also shine bright but often go unnoticed. This applies to the world of music. All successful artists work with geniuses in the background that fans do not necessarily know about or celebrate. I think it’s important to celebrate the musical geniuses behind the artist who make a significant contribution to creating the music and iconic status for the artists that we love. This is a post series of interviews celebrating guitarists, drummers, pianists, DJs, producers, engineers, choreographers and artist managers of the music world. A celebration of the “UnSung heroes”. Y&Y presents UnSung hero #1 Okiem Warmann, accomplished pianist, producer, songwriter and founder of successful youtube site “wannaplaypiano”. Interested yet? Check the Interview on the flipside.

Last week, I landed in Heathrow after a long 11 hour flight back from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and wanted to jump right back on the plane and go back! After spending 6 days in the city that Brazilians name “Cidade Maravilhosa” (Marvellous city), I am pretty convinced that it is now my favorite city in the world. Mountains, beautiful beaches, rainforests, lagoons, great weather, great food, beautiful people and a vibrant football culture are all aspects of Rio that instantly left an impression on me. The purpose of my visit was to attend and speak about global women’s football matters at the annual Soccerex convention, which is a trade show dedicated to the businesses in football around the world. With the excitement in the air about the forthcoming 2014 world cup and 2016 Olympics hosted in Brazil, it was a great time to visit the land where football runs in the veins.
