I can’t tell you the amount of times I’ve tried to take photos on the London underground or even just in crowded places and ended up with nothing even close to impressive. In this project Tomer Ifrah manages to incorporate large crowds into his work in a way that engages you and creates multiples points of interest rather than just cluttering the frame. The Moscow Metro being his location of choice, Ifrah captures a gloomy colour palette and juxtaposes stillness and movement effectively. I guess it’s time to grab my SLR and head back underground, more after the cut.

If you haven’t seen Drive, then shame on you! If you haven’t heard the Drive Soundtrack, then double shame on you! If you haven’t heard of the quadrant system however then you’ll be forgiven. The concept involves breaking a frame down into four section (top, bottom, left and right) and utilising those four areas to different effective within a frame. The concept is quite simple but in this breakdown by Tony Zhou you’ll see just how impressive it can be when analysed. Things like this make me want to get into film making! Video after the cut.

If there’s one extra thing I wish I had while travelling, it’s a GoPro. The compact and sturdy little camera would have been useful more times than I can count, whether while trekking through the jungle or jumping off of a cliff. An SLR just isn’t always appropriate. Never, however, did I have the opportunity to anything quite this crazy and even with a GoPro, I don’t think the prospect of such incredible footage could have pushed me to even climb the structure. This is most definitely a video you’ll love if you have a fear of heights! Check it out after the break.

Only yesterday Adam mentioned the beautiful FKA Twigs and her exceptional, attention grabbing, music videos. I’m so excited by Twigs creativity and her ability to treat everything she does as art. The track Pendulum features on last years LP1 and the video is in the typical style of the artist, dark and seemingly quite twisted (literally). Make your own interpretation after the jump.

There’s definitely an appreciation for black and white photography. The fact that the colours are missing can really make you focus more on the image. While it may not always be the most visually appealing photography with the lack of colours we’re so used to being exposed to every day, we can’t deny that taking away the colour really can add to an image. So, you ever seen black and white watercolour art? I certainly haven’t. And these pieces by Indonesian artist Elicia Edijanto are absolutely stunning. Beautifully simple visuals that are everything they need to be, even without the colour. She depicts vulnerable children alongside creatures of the wild such as wolves, bears and elephants. A real calmness about them, I feel. Check them out after the cut.

See what we’ve become! Mobile phones have become such a big part of our everyday lives to the point where even at dinner with friends we’re itching to check twitter/Instagram/facebook (sometimes in that order). Infact I think some people don’t actually do anything, they’re just admiring their immaculately designed iPhones. Well London based street photographer BabyCakes Romero is surely aware of this; he went around London capturing those guilty of contributing to the death of conversation as we know it. If you spot yourself below, I’d say embrace it. Check his photos below.

Last weekend I had the pleasure of visiting Istanbul; a place I had been wanting to see for a very long time. It was a fun trip with my work over a weekend, so allocating time to travel around in a bigger group other than just me, myself and I, and all the beverage consuming sessions, meant that I had nowhere near enough time to explore the city as much as I would have liked. Safe to say however that in my short stay in Istanbul, it has to be one of the most amazing places I have ever visited. Rich in history and culture, Istanbul shows off its people, traditions, stunning landscapes and (quite terrifying) backstreets during the day. At night, the shisha cafes, coffee shops and endless amounts of rooftop bars get filled to the max. Take a gander at some snaps after the cut, and also check out an incredible short film documenting the rush of exploring Turkey. It’s a must-watch.

Talent comes in many different forms, you can be a great singer, dancer, musician, photographer, cook or artist as is the case for Lorraine Loots. Such talents, may I just add, I am envious of. Lorraine has honed her talents and has been crafting these beautifully crafted miniature paintings for postcards. She was inspired by her home town of Cape Town and began painting a series of these little masterpieces. Each piece is dated and can be seen on her website where anyone is able to purchase depending on availability a pieces are limited. Such is the demand for her work she has managed to sell painting that haven’t even been crafted yet. For those who aren’t able to get their hands on one of her painting fear not as she will be holding an exhibition of all of her work in January 2015. Manned moon landings have always been up for question. Did they happen? Why have we not put humans back on the moon since Apollo 17 in 1972? Still, with moon landings aside, one thing that we can be sure of is the beauty man has witnessed through the exploration of space by NASA. Space photos never seize to amaze me. Galaxies, planets, astronauts. It’s probably one of the most exciting ongoing exploration projects that the human race has conducted. What’s also exciting is that between the 19th September - 25th October, London BREESE Little Gallery is home to vintage NASA photographs taken between 1961 and 1980. Lost for words, this is some of the best black and white photography I’ve ever stumbled on. Self-taught photographer Fan Ho began documenting the world around him at a young age because of his fascination with the hustle and bustle of the urban environment. Each one of these shots uses light, shadows and shapes so well to tell a story - utterly captivating and visually striking. Each one of these is incredible, it’ll make you want to pick up a camera and chase the light. Literally.
