Hip hop fans should instantly recognise the re-illustrated artwork for classics by Notorious B.I.G, Wu Tang Clan, Big Pun and Gang Starr. Chris B. Murray has done some dope work, the 36 Chambers illustration being perhaps the most exciting, the prospect of a Wu Tang inspired anime or manga series is too much to handle. Now if I could just get a copy of one of these to hang on my wall… More after the cut.

Adam and I spent last weekend escaping the city and shooting some visual goodness that you’ll be seeing very soon. It’s photography like this that inspires us to venture out into the wild, armed with our cameras and search for every possible opportunity for a great shot. A photographer going by the name Fox Grom took his huskies out onto a thawing frozen lake and the results are like something you’d expect to see in a fairytale movie, check them out after the cut.

While travelling I would often watch surfers from the beach in pure amazement as they expressed such a great sense of freedom riding the waves, it seemed to me like the equivalent of flying on water. The ocean is so powerful and for a brief moment a person would channel this power in a spectacular display. For this reason I love the work of Ray Collins, a photographer who has captured the waves in some of their most expressive moments, showing their strength but also their beauty. Roz Chast, an illustrator and artist for The New Yorker has had over one thousand cartoons published in the magazine since her first published cartoon in 1978. This short film by New Yorker Video looks more closely at her work, the thoughts and the process behind it. In it she explains that everything can be drawn differently by different people, a very simple but important and often overlooked concept. You don’t have to do something like someone else did in order to be successful at it, there are always different approaches. More after the cut.

The guys over at the German design studio, Stellavie, have put together a small series of beautiful movie director portraits. Limited to 200 prints per edition, the series features Alfred Hitchcock, Martin Scorsese and David Lynch, with more potentially to follow. The prints were drawn and illustrated by Julian Rentzsch, who I immediately followed on Instagram following my discovery of this amazing artwork. Check them out in more detail after the cut.

Dominic Wilcox is a designer, artist and inventor who turns everyday items into something out of the ordinary. Stones covered in gold leaf become “Luxury Skimming Stones” for example and the much talked about self driving car gets an upgrade from Wilcox, who has designed the “Stained Glass Driverless Sleeper Car of the Future.” This short documentary takes a look inside the mind of the man himself and reveals the method behind his madness. There is definitely something psychedelic about these murals that artist Seth Globepainter has been drawing all over the world. The paintings portray people, often young looking, being drawn into colourful whirlpools and the huge pieces cover entire buildings or walls. There’s certainly a suggestion in the work that art and colour can provide a temporary portal of escape but you can make your own mind up after the cut.

With our resident ninja, Derek, making his move to Japan last year, and Aaron exploring Asia, Tokyo has continued to rise in my list of places I need to see soon. With its dense urban build, it’s everything a city lover like myself would want. From what I’ve heard, Tokyo doesn’t sleep at night. Instead, it awakens even more so. Japanese street photographer Masashi Wakui does an incredible job at capturing this lively city at night. The neon lights, the reflective streets and the shadows from the buildings all around. In his photos, you can feel the life of the city. In everything from the people, the streets and the lights. Check out some of his beautiful shots after the cut.

The French illustrator and painter recently decided to show off his 2014 Sketchbooks and we’re blown away. Last month we featured the incredible illustrator OhBones and today I had the pleasure of being introduced to the Instagram of another great illustrator who goes by the name Annarack. I was instantly impressed by the intricate black ink pen illustrations, only to scroll further and discover some wonderful water colour painting and an undeniable sense of humour in some of her work. I’ve been inspired, so while I attempt to fill this empty Moleskine I have sitting next to me, you should check out her amazing art!
