“Shokunin (Sho-koo-neen) is a Japanese word used to describe an individual that aspires to become a master in their particular craft or art form,” writes filmmaker Ryan Bush. Which is precisely what this film is about. I never thought it possible for me to be captivated by a man describing his love of Bonsai but his passion is just incredible and seeing someone take the time to truly master an art of any form is inspiring. Woah… the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers of my childhood just got a dark and gritty makeover to say the least. If you were born any time around 1992, like myself, you’ll be familiar with all the old rangers mentioned in this and a sense of nostalgia will likely flood your brain. Imagine the Power Rangers set in a Bladerunner like world and you have this short film. There’s only one thing to say, it’s morphin’ time!

LA based collective NAVIGATE recently launched their latest project ‘Updating Philosophies’, a short piece featuring Brooklyn based visual artist: Cernesto – as he shares his story. Cernesto’s work stemmed from his love for graffiti, he now produces murals and other pieces of art for exhibits all over the world. NAVIGATE’s short film focuses on the art behind how a piece of work is created, the process. I love how these guys have presented the concept of storytelling here and the video is shot really well. Le Gouffre (“The Gulf”) is an inspiring tale about friendship, sacrifice and conquering the impossible. It is a beautifully animated short film by Carl Beauchemin, Thomas Chrétien, and David Forest at Lightning Boy Studio, telling the tale of two friends forced to build a bridge to cross a canyon on their outdoor adventure. They take on the challenge, and what follows is a wonderful tale. A story of building a bridge has never been so moving. Added to the fact that the film was funded through kickstarter, where they managed to raise almost five times their original goal. Japanese brand nonnative will be releasing a collection this season inspired by the city of Istanbul and to feature alongside their impressive lookbook, they’ve released a wonderful video filmed in the city. The collection doesn’t play a big part in the video, instead it blends into it, but this works well and avoids the clichéd fashion film look. Instead it becomes a story of a journey through Istanbul, a city we visited last year (A Trip To Istanbul). It’s fast paced but beautiful. Check out the video and lookbook shots, after the cut.

San Francisco was already somewhere I’ve been wanting to visit for a long time, there’s a lot of America I want to see, but after watching this, I’m even more keen to go. This wonderful time-lapse film shows the city from all angles and highlights the beauty that can be found in a cityscape. It’s all shot at night and in black & white, so you’ll understand why it’s been called Gotham City. Check out Toby Harriman‘s video after the cut!

Since the get-go, Game of Thrones has been regarded as one of the greatest TV shows ever made. From the captivating storytelling to the incredible scenery, it’s on a scale like nothing else out there. If you watch the show, I reckon on at least one occasion you have thought to yourself how it all goes down. It’s clearly a huge scale operation and they manage to make each episode as epic as the last. The new season is almost upon us, so to add to the excitement, HBO have released a pretty cool video that shows a day in the life of this incredible TV show. The other day we posted an awesome video breaking down the quadrant system used in Drive, this one’s a little more fun. Filmmaker Jacob Swinney has put together a series of clips from some of Quentin Tarantino‘s illustrious films to highlight the importance and effectiveness of sounds. We rarely take conscious take of every sound we hear when watching a movie, rather they slip into our unconscious and enhance our movie watching experience without us even knowing. However when these sounds are alienated from a scene they really come alive individually. Check it out after the cut!

A beautiful little piece of film by filmmaker Billy Perry as he shares some stunning woodland visuals shot during the cold and foggy month of February. I originally followed this fellow a good few years ago for his Call of Duty videos (when that was a thing) but he’s moved onto better and far more creative projects that are always a wonder to watch. The atmosphere in this piece is fantastical but eerie all at the same time, check it out after the cut.
