Last week alcohol beverage giants Diageo took over the Wellington Arch to celebrate the launch of new Single Grain Scotch Whisky, HAIG CLUB. “Designed to be different,” the new whisky was developed in partnership with David Beckham and will be available in the UK and across the world. Early in the week Beckham held a dinner with the likes of Tom Cruise, Guy Ritchie and Idris Elba in attendance. Fortunately we also had the pleasure of being invited to the Wellington Arch to experience the Scotch first hand, see what we thought after the cut.

I’m quite new to whisky, by which I mean anything beyond a JD & Coke has until recently been unfamiliar to me, however HAIG CLUB is described as a whisky “crafted to appeal to people who are new to whisky and whisky connoisseurs alike.” Drunk neat, the whisky is certainly easy to drink even for an amateur like myself, with a fresh and clean taste.

More my style however is as part of a cocktail and a Haig Clubman remained in my hand for most of the night, I could’t finish one without being given another. To make one yourself, fill a glass with ice, 50ml of HAIG CLUB, 35ml of sparkling apple juice and a few dashes of ginger bitters, you won’t be disappointed!
