The Blog Daily inspiration
Everyone needs a holiday every so often. Of course, that ‘holiday’ can come in many forms, but I guess the key theme is that of a break from the norm. To do something different, to relax, to turn up, and to unwind. A short holiday I had this year was to Marrakech, and asides from […]

I haven’t written a Throwback Thursday post for minute but I thought it was time I reclaimed ownership of this and give y’all some of that oldskool you have been missing. This week i’m taking it back to 2001/2002 with a single that was taken from this singers debut album ‘Closer‘ but was then rerecorded and placed on her second album entitled ‘Even Closer‘. Have you guess who it is yet? No, I didn’t think so. This is a tough one as I feel like she is still relatively unknown. Anywho Enjoy this slice of RnB goodness from Goapele.

Boom! Only a few more weeks to go till the World Cup 2014 begins in Brazil and to celebrate this ESPN hired Brazilian-based illustrator and designer Cristiano Siqueira to create posters for each of the 32 participating teams. I think in the past week, I’ve had over 100 press releases with World Cup related garbage from collaborations and adverts from official sponsors etc - it’s an endless tide of awful content. So it’s nice to stumble of a real gem like this. His style of vectors have a real comic book feel to it, each piece shows the unique story of the heroes that’ll lead their countries onto the pitch in June. View the rest after the cut.

What’s with every brand getting involved in the sportswear game these days? H&M and now fellow Highstreet retailer Topman have entered the game with a debut collection. I guess fitness has become a big thing in the past few years and looking good whilst doing it is becoming more of a thing. I’m usually swoosh’d out to the max with an off-brand NBA jersey in the gym, you know how we do. There’s only so much you can do with performance wear, it’s more to do with the fit and functional side of things as opposed to out there design. Get the fit and quality right and you’re onto a winner. Topman have the upper hand when it comes to pricing as their sportswear rivals such as adidas have a somewhat higher mark up. £30 for shorts has always been ridiculous in my mind. More on the reverse.

Unknown to many, North Korea is a mystery to this planet. Published on CNN recently, we got the chance to see North Korea through the lens of Google Glass thanks to reporter Kenny Zhu. The photos give a more personal look in to the mysterious country through a first person view. Zhu was told that so long as the photos “reflect the positive side of North Korea” he was fine to take photos with the wearable tech and upload (although there is no internet access for temporary visitors to the country). The pictures are fascinating. It’s clear how military minded the country is from the war statues and the political photos and messages displayed everywhere, to the uniform clothing people wear. It’s also brilliant to see wearable tech being used like this - a discreet camera that is far from obvious within Google Glass. Take a look at some photos after the cut.

Another one!? Yes! John Legend is without a doubt one of my favourite singers, his lyricism and vocal delivery is second to none. If anyone has his contact details, swing them my way - I want him to sing at my wedding next year haha. Alas, I digress - John headed back to his university to give the speech at Penn’s 258th Commencement. Utterly brilliant speech taking a different angle to the usual: “The key to success, the key to happiness is to open your heart to love.” A R&B singer talking about love, corny right? Nope, not even close. Watch the full speech on the reverse, maybe just before you head off to work this morning. Good morning inspiration.

In 1924, two guys by the names of Harry B. Parkinson and Frank Miller shot a short documentary called “Wonderful London”. Today in 2014 a film-maker Simon Smith, spent the last few months recapturing the city exactly as the 19th century duo did, visiting each location and standing in exactly the same spots they did. Here Simon has blended the two documentaries together to create what he calls a “window through time”. London offers so much history and though its common knowledge, it’s nice to see how much of it has been preserved… there are moments where the docs look identical. I suppose props also go to Simon for executing this so well too. Watch Wonderful London V2 after the break.

It’s here and it’s huge. Converse have brought over their series of global community projects designed to inspire the next generation of creative spirits through music, art, style and skate. Following on from the success of similar initiatives in NYC, LA and more, CONS Project London will open up in Peckham. Yes Peckham - the newest of London’s gentrification victims. The CONS project kicks off from next Thursday for 10 weeks with a series of talks, workshops and well curated exhibitions aimed at inspiring and providing opportunities to young people. More information on the reverse.

While most of Twitter talks about the trending internal family dispute, I stumbled across this brilliant commencement speech from Dr. Sean Combs at his former school, Howard University. Everyone knows him for the Bad Boy years and his infamous dance moves but behind all that, he’s a smart business man who’s come along way from growing up in Harlem. He shares a little bit of his struggle, NYC marathon story and more - head on over after the cut and watch.
