I’m not one for festivals - you all know why, the mud, camping and all that jazz just ain’t for me. In conjunction with the London 2012 Festival, both Motionhouse and Legs On The Wall teamed up to create a piece in order to encapsulate the spirit of the up and coming Olympic games. The Voyage explores various themes from departures and arrivals to hopes and fears to expectations and disappointments. There was certainly a buzz in the air as audience members questioned and awaited the goings on of an elaborate 3 tier ship that had been placed at Victoria Square’s centre.

Anyone else watch Nadal get Rosolted the other night? It was epic, wonderful to see the underdog come on top and I guess that’s one of the wonders of sports. You never know who’s going to win, stats don’t mean anything when it comes to the day of the game/match. As proven by the young Croat who’s ranked 100. For as long as I remember, BBC have broadcast the iconic tennis grand slam and to promote this year’s event they’ve teamed up with Red Bee to create this typography infused video. The level of detail in the typography is incredible, the 3D mapping and tracking must have taken hours to construct to this level of detail - madness. Saying that, I’m not particularly a fan of the choice of font but that’s me. Who are you supporting this year? Come on Feds!

Remember Jason Hawkes? I’ve posted his work on here before, the aerial photography of NYC and now he’s teamed up with Creative Review to take the skies in an AS355 helicopter to check out some of London’s best landmarks - Shard, the BT Tower, and the Olympic Park. I’ve always wanted to take to the skies of London and photograph around the suburbs but considering the prices for helicopter rides are around £300 for 30 minutes of air time - that’s not going to happen soon. One thing about Jason’s work; he has to photograph with one door open and that would KILL ME since I’m scared of heights. See more imagery on the reverse.

Any Basketball fans around? I go through periods where I watch the sport then go months on end without watching. I guess it’s down to my messed up sleeping patterns that I’m able to watch the games at stupid o’clock. If you’ve been paying attention to Nike for the past fortnight, they’ve been unveiling a plethora of new products and revolutionary technological devices/concepts. Which all ties in with their pre-Olympic campaign and to further this, the mega brand will be bringing the World Basketball Festival to the heart of Brixton. It’ll be a day celebration of the game and culture of basketball featuring a packed schedule of events for the local community to take part in and experience. More on the reverse.

“It’s too soon!” “The origin story…AGAIN?!” This and more was the less than enthusiastic response which greeted the announcement of the cleverly titled The Amazing Spider-Man back in 2010, a reboot of the superhero franchise which Sam Raimi began in 2002. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t among the sceptics; it had after all been only 5 years since Raimi’s Spider-Man 3, and although that movie was disappointing, it would have been intriguing to see how they might have made amends. Still, the steadily improving – if overly revealing – marketing of The Amazing Spider-Man did well to silence many of the naysayers, and director Marc Webb (500 Days of Summer) should take pride in having delivered an engaging finished product, laying a solid foundation for future sequels in the process.

So simple, haunting and beautiful. Sydney-based photographer Tamara Dean who’s part of the Oculi, a photography collective that’s dedicated to capturing contemporary culture down under who’s work isn’t usually seen in mainstream media. She manages to explore loneliness, decay and intimacy in her recent series titled Only Human. You can really see the human fragility and vulnerability in each of the photographs, nothing overly photoshopped in her imagery. The darkness of the locations do the talking and add so much to the composition - hop on after the cut to see more.

Sincerest apologies, it’s been a chaotic week for me with work deadlines and other engagements - tonight’s the first night I’ve been home before midnight. Home sweet home. This Friday, I’m holding my first ever event (since my Uni days) in East London. Taking place at The Bells of Shoreditch, ‘About Time’ is an event put on by Ralph Hardy and myself, which is kind of dedicated to music lovers, without sounding too contrived. Essentially, I got tired of being subjected to Rick Ross’s music and his cronies poor dance moves in clubs. After some conversations with friends, it turned out they felt the same! I wanted to bring together Hip Hop and House/Bass via Soul music, which sounds a little confusing - but I’ll explain in more detail after the jump! ‘About Time’ takes place this Friday and I hope to see you all there!
