Yin's Life

my journey.

Hi I’m Niran and I want to change the world by being myself. These are my photographs, words and story.

Where Do I Even Begin?

I’ve been quiet on here for a while, life is becoming more and more hectic. Not complaining though, I don’t know what I’d didn’t have to-do lists or a purpose to fulfil. I can’t remember the last time I’ve said ‘I’m bored’ and I’m very grateful for that. My job, personal projects and freelance opportunities keep me going – after all, every opportunity is an experience to learn and hone your skills. 10,000 hours yo.

Rounding up the past month is a tough one, I’ve been through a lot. All positive but trying to remember each and every day is proving difficult. Highlight definitely was the trip to Paris for Levi’s launch; it was a fun night of connecting with people (hate the term networking). humbled by the doors that are opening for us. Expect a few more international trips in the coming few months, cooking up some glorious visuals for you guys.

God bless this Kindle. What an invention for the commuter, one cannot hold a bag and flick through a book on the underground whereas with a Kindle Touch all you need is a finger to flip page. Lazy? Nope, just more practical on the underground. It’s actually sped up my reading too – have read 3 books in the past month: Outliers, Velocity and Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions. Prior to the Kindle, I read once every 2-3 months. Before I started the site I’d read just as much but with the lack of time and the constant napping on underground journeys that was never possible. Honestly, I’ve learnt so much from all three books, could write a dissertation summarising it all. Find a book – reading Mashable and wisdom quotes religiously isn’t the same. So much to learn, better than listening to ignorant Hip-Hop or Guetta music enroute to work.

What else have I done? Lots of photography. Client work, Y&Y and even day job related stuff. The pictures in this post are off an up and coming London-based rapper, Cynikal. He just dropped his mixtape, you can download it here. If I’m honest, I’m pleasantly surprised by the quality of his music and production. No bias whatsoever, y’all know how critical I am of UK ‘rappers’. He’s stayed true to hip-hop, no stupid dances. These are all out takes from a recent promo shoot with him, none have been retouched properly.

That’s all for now folks. We’ve got an interesting joint brand and blogger collaboration coming up. Stay inspired.

The following photograph ended up as his mixtape cover.

ASOS Future Stylist Final – Behind The Scenes @ ASOS HQ

So a fortnight ago, I got to play photographer on one of our outreach projects for ASOS. As mentioned in Future Stylist Final post, we brought the 2 stylists down to London to participate in a series of challenges at ASOS HQ. I spent most of the week with them, guiding them through challenges and photographing behind-the-scenes content. As always, it’s a pleasure to be working at the ASOS office – it’s heaven for you fashionista/fashionistos. So many clothes, studios and more. Dream.

I wasn’t really sure what the ASOS photographic style was so I opted for a really bright, crisp and colourful style of editing. Have a look at my photography below! Let me know what you think.

A Fashion Daydream

Bank Holiday Monday. Wet weather and unreliable train service is more than a good enough reason to stay in bed for the whole day. Me? I got up to shoot a beautiful woman in the rain & in the middle of Soho Square. Mind you I woke up at the time I was meant to meet her. Eek.

I’ve only known Reena for a few years and only met her a handful of times but we’ve kept in touch via Twitter. That of course being the place where we originally met, oh the wonders of Social Media. She’s quite a well known blogger in fashion blogosphere, check out her website here. Oh and dudes, you may drool over her but she’s engaged to a guy called Tom. You’ll see the shoot in a popular magazine soon as part of a summer festival look guide.

That awkward moment where you’re stood next to a woman stripping down to hot pants in Soho Square, ey Reena?
