This short clip is directed by Shueti , discovered his work through Channel 4’s Random Acts website. On what one can only describe as a mind blowing visual, Shueti films a dancer in his element. Capturing a whole leap of raw movement, some parts look very tribal and other parts seem coordinated. It’s a very weird concept, one that I don’t really understand but the visuals are very impressive. From the cryptic/post-apocalyptic background effect to the clannish attire to the cutaways and even the music; these are components that present a really strong cinematic visual. How can a video blow me away like this? The attention to detail is immaculate, from the script to the transitions between slides and logotypes. The video is a celebration of renowned design consultancy Pentagram‘s 40th birthday. I ended up pausing it every 4-5 seconds the first time to take in all the different typographic combinations and sleek layouts, it’s flawless. I think I want to work in branding and design at some point in my career – there minimalist aesthetic is similar to my own! I digressed, the video is all about a boy born on the day Pentagram opened and how his life has been tracked (and kerned) by forty years of Pentagram design. What a brilliant way of showcasing 40 years worth of work, I’m in awe. Hop on after the cut to watch.

Living Room is a stop motion short film, created by Andeas Kaufmann- it has to be said firstly that the plot for this is so random. It’s about a group of chewing gum in an old man’s house that come alive during the night, they gather around the TV as they form a band and create a music composition… Yeah exactly, it is very bizarre but you’ll find that it’s just amazing to watch and listen to. Andreas submitted this film for his thesis; I think it’s safe to say he passed with flying colours. Watch ‘Living Room’ after the break.

Have you ever been to the cinema and had a guy sit next to you with a notepad? I’m not going to ‘front’ I do that on a regular basis. Aesthetically The Matrix blew mind and a big reason for that was the ‘bullet time‘ scene. That had me pretty much flabbergasted for a good 10 minutes! If you were remotely interested in that, flip over the other side for some geek porn.

I posted this Rishi‘s work a long while ago, an impressive short piece featuring Dante Ha (stunt man)- refresh your memory here. Looking through his videos again today, I spotted one of his more recent projects ‘While The World Sleeps‘. As an Indian himself, Rishi takes the viewer on a 2 minute journey through his B. I love how the piece manages to capture the beauty of the country whilst prompting the viewer to reflect… not to mention the added class of using black and white. Watch after the break.

Apologies for the lack of posts in the past few days and weeks. I’m going to change that this week, even if it means I have to stay up til stupid o’clock. One of my favourite creative beings, I was going to use the term film maker but he’s much much more than that. Salomon Ligthelm of ligthelm.tv did the sound for this video from The Variable/The Mill. It captures the very essence of the Hindu festival of colours, Holi. It’s been filmed in super slowmo, Twixtor perhaps? Having being born and raised a Hindu, I’d love to photograph this tradition and capture life + culture back home. Boy, these guys are brave – imagine £5000+ kit with powder PAINT flying around. I’d cry, all in the name of ART though. Beautiful, watch on the reverse.
