When I think of Balmain the first things that pops into my mind are blazers and shoulder pads but not all new collections can look the same. Also I would say that the shoulder pads lean more towards the female contingent however that can be debated with a semi recent photo of r&b superstar Usher wearing a very odd looking blazer for a man, see here. Any way let me stop waffling on a get down to the meat of what this post is about. On the flipside I have for you the new lookbook for the Balmain Homme 2011 Spring/Summer collection.

Though this is one of my favourite posts to write I have been slacking so much that I even forgot I ever created this series. Due to my considerable laziness I have decided that this week will be dedicated to Shoulda Woulda Coulda. Every day this week will see a SWC post, this to make up for all the weeks that have gone by without me posting it. Today’s SWC features R&B legend and queen of soul Mary J Blige.

2010 was a great year for many artists. Some new and some old. From Lady Gaga to Justin Bieber, this year was definitely dominated by Pop music. Some artists who were more renowned for other genres were now moving into the pop genre to great success. You only have to look at Usher for example to see how well the switch could work for an artist.

Future of R&B

posted in music by Brady

I’m a big fan of rhythm and blues ever since the beginning of the genre in the 40′s. The genre has always evolved through the years and the style has been described as blues, funk, rock and roll, soul to name a few. Nowadays we know the music genre as contemporary r&b, however I have a problem with a lot of mainstream r&b currently.

So we’ve shown you a couple photographers now I think it’s about time we showed you some Director’s this time in particular a Music Video Director who goes by the name of Julien Christian Lutz. You might not recognise his name like you recognise Spike Jonze & Hype Williams (Lutz’s mentor) but you will have no doubt seen some of his work with popular artists such as Jay-Z, Ludacris & Kanye West. Watch some his music videos on the flipside.

I’ve actually got a fair few tunes for you this time. The post was delayed mainly because of the Y&Y one year celebrations and I spent most of yesterday recovering from the night. I’ll kick start off things with the final version of Quincy Jones‘ Secret Garden 2010 version featuring Usher, Robin Thicke, Tyrese Gibson, LL Cool J, Tevin Campbell & Barry White. It’s like the Ultimate R&B crooner fest, straight bedroom music. More after the cut.

We all love music in some way be it the R&B, Hip-Hop genre or the Rock, Indie, Heavy Metal genres, we all enjoy listening to our favourite artists. As we admire the person that is pushed to the forefront and presented to us do we stop to take the time and look behind surface and admire the talent of those in the background? Many may not know him by name but you will have most definitely come across one of his songs, Rico Love is one of the most sought after songwriters/producer in the music industry today and I think it’s time that he gets his shine. More when you read on.
