It’s none other than Missy Elliott! This week I’ve chosen to feature ‘The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)’ from her debut album- she has a whole library full of great tracks but this is one of my favourites from her. Timberland smashed this one; his skills as a producer have never been in doubt- i hope he brings it on the new album! Anyway, this song, along with others from that era, makes me want to jump into a time loop back to the 90′s. Good music. Good times.

A real throwback right here, I heard the song at a record store on Saturday and instantly Shazam‘d it as I’ve heard it sampled in a Jay-Z song. It makes the song for me, the infectious saxophone infused beat and Bobby Bland‘s soulful vocals. Beautiful blues – going to start researching into Hip-hop samples for my next few Throwback Thursday selections. Some real gems to discover, hop on after the cut to listen.

OK that was an easy one, you must have gathered it’s ‘Stan‘ Eminem’s biggest fan, featuring ‘soft voiced’ Dido. This is one of those tracks that really shows how musicians can carefully mix different sounds in a creative way- the hook is from a whole other song from Dido’s album (No Angel) but it really works. ‘Stan‘ came off Eminem’s ‘Marshall Marthers‘ album, as dark and twisted as it was… I’ve always admired this guys ability to put his anger and frustration into words/lyrics- it is his best LP to date. Yesterday was the tenth anniversary of the tragic and untimely passing of Miss Lisa Left-Eye Lopez. With such a spark and spice to her personality it was hard to believe that the good lord upstairs decided that it was her time. As we all should know before she departed she was one member of the very popular group TLC. She left behind great music and a legacy that will forever uphold, Lisa Lopez should never and will never be forgotten. I remember blasting this tune out loud in the summer of 06 so when I stumbled across it in my iTunes library naturally I cranked up the volume. The way I was singing this song in my room this morning as if I wrote the damn thing. Having filled my ears with this musical goodness I now pass it on to you to experience the same joy it gave me. First singer sounds a lot like Chris Brown, don’t you think?

Honestly I wasn’t really prepared to do this post. I claimed it but didn’t have a song in mind so I proceeded to ask my housemates what song they thought I should bring back to your attention, however all the songs that they mentioned we have already featured on Throwback. So naturally I cut them off with a swiftness and told them to stop suggesting ish to me. Having racked my brain I finally settled on this little gem from the great Coldplay. ‘Fix You’ simply put is a stunning song, I love when they perform it live it gives me goosebumps. Unfortunately the studio version doesn’t quite incite this same emotion however it is still pretty damn good. Read on for you Coldplay Throwback. Until next week snitches!

Since R.Kelly announced the return of his self titled ‘Hip-Hopera‘ series ‘Trapped In The Closet‘, I started to listen to his music again. He’s  composed some GOOD R&B tunes and he’s even done some club bangers- so i’ve chosen one of his songs for this week’s Throwback track!  It’s got a feel good vibe, a two-steppable beat and I anyone would love to throw a party like the one in the video… can you guess?

Happy People

This week’s throwback track has been in my head since the weekend,  it’s an 80′s classic, one of the most popular from that era of music. It’s by British band: Soul II Soul who became quite successful off the back of their hit ‘Back to Life’. Their music was a mix of so many genres, dance, soul, hip-hop everything! You could just say New Jack Swing and save your breathe to be fair. Anyway, today it’s ‘Keep on Movin‘ that I have chosen to throwback; A chilled and uplifting yet ‘two-step-able‘ track featuring soulful vocals from Caron Wheeler. Enjoy

Sorry those who were expecting a Throwback Thursday yesterday, it slipped under the radar this week. Fear not thought for I have thought of a song that should be worth the extra day’s wait. For the past few weeks I have been blasting this tune from Ginuwine as if it has only just been released. There’s nothing better than kicking back and jamming to old songs you have stored in your library, hopefully this week’s Flashback Friday will inspire you to do just that.
