The use of camera phones has gone from taking drunken photos on a bender to full on photography, it’s amazing how accessible photography is nowadays. We’ve seen lens attachments for camera phones before so this is nothing new, but the great thing about this one is that it is universal so it’s compatible with most smart phones not just iPhones! Woah something peaceful yet so dark about this self-taught photographer‘s work. Meet Prague-based photographer Martin Stranka – before you start complaining about how heavily edited his work is, get over it. It’s still photography! he’s managed to capture dreamy visuals and enhance them to a state that the image looks so CALM. All the models are mid-air, caught in a moment positions – it’s hard to explain, you just have to see it for yourself. He says his photography started because of some unhappy moments in life and he needed a way to express himself. I can definitely see that tinge of darkness in this work, these character’s look calm but yet so lost in their journeys. That’s my interpretation, what do you guys think?

I need to travel. Not just to NYC but to new places, new cultures to be absorbed in…away from the MEDCs. Unicef photo of the year award is one given to photographers who capture the personalities and living conditions of children around the world in an outstanding manner. Not only does the award highlight and reward a photographer’s ability to capture the children‘s situation beautifully. The real aim of the award is to help increase the awareness of children’s suffering. I know some of you may think ‘a photograph isn’t going to change their situation‘ but images have the unique ability to show us how they (the children) experience the world, images are way better than words to show us this. Check out some of this year’s winners and honourable mentions on the flipside.
