We have consciously slowed down on posting music videos in recent months however when the first music video from a guy that you have been supporting for quite some time and that guy is now considered as one of Y&Y‘s homies then you can’t not showcase it. This is the first, and hopefully not the last, video taken from his simply stunning mixtape Those Who Wait (which you can download for FREE here). I haven’t watched the video yet because I wanted to share it with you guys ASAP so why don’t we all click the read on button and watch it together. I present Daley – ‘Smoking Gun’ the official music video, Let’s go!

Amerigo Gazaway, of Gummy Soul has created an 8-track, 33-minute mixtape combining music from Afrobeat legend, Fela Kuti and Hip Hop kings, De La Soul. Acapella’s carefully chosen from 8 of De La Soul’s songs including some of my personal faves, “Stakes Is High”, “Ooh”, “Breakadawn” & “Feel Good” have been mixed with samples from the horn-heavy, funky Fela Kuti library. Fela Soul isn’t simply a remix mixtape of Fela Kuti and De La Soul, it’s almost a whole new era of music. I think that if you weren’t familiar with Fela or De La’s music – you’d be forgiven for thinking the tracks on Fela Soul are from a new type of Hip Hop band that mixes rapping with Afro Beat music. And that was Amerigo’s intention, to “bridge a gap between hip-hop and afrobeat, and serve an introduction for hip-hop fans and music fans alike who are unfamiliar with Fela Kuti or De La Soul’s music.” Listen to the free mixtape after the jump and tell me what you think!

Music is a wonderful thing. I love days when new music grabs my attention or rediscover an artist that I never really paid much attention too only to realise that they are pretty dope. Yesterday I had such a day, I’ve heard of the name Daniel De Bourg before and knew about a mixtape that he had out but never really paid much attention (I don’t know why) but yesterday something made me check him out. I think it was because of twitter that I decided to have a listen to his freshly released second mixtape entitled The Bridge, the first being The Prelude, and I have to say that it is quite DOPE! His voice is all that and a bit more lol. I don’t wanna go on and on about how good I think he is but instead give you the opportunity to hear for yourself so hope on after the break and listen to his dopeness and then download his mixtapes.

Damn running late with the post this week. I’m ill again – don’t ask. Weak immune system and folks around me keep spreading the lurgies. H’annoying. Hop on after the cut for this week’s musical goodness. We’re spreading the gospel to your ears.

Oh here we go, I struggled to get out of bed, felt like I had a crazy Thursday night like the girl above. I don’t know what it’s about Fridays, just can’t get up! #fidead. Though seeing my timeline swarmed with music bloggers posting links to the Weeknd‘s latest mixtape – Thursday makes me happy. I’m actually looking forward to the commute into work now. It’s always kind of dead on the trains, perfect for some relaxing R&B. *Sings in falsetto* not a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday but a Friday. Mixtape on the reverse.

The say patience is a virtue but let’s face it we all get a little impatient at some stage. However good things come to Those Who Wait. Today is a good day as friend of Y&Y, Daley has exclusively given us the right to be the first website to publish his long awaited mixtape appropriately titled ‘Those Who Wait‘. The 10 track mixtape was preceded by the single ‘Game Over‘, which has experienced great radio play on BBC 1xtra, and sees Daley mix it up with a guest feature in the form of Marsha Ambrosius. This is a great body of work to tide fans over until Mr Daley is ready to drop his debut album (again something I cannot wait for).

I may have said it before but I must stress again that Chris Brown is doing his damn thang. With all the music he has been recording it would seem that he has set up home in the studio but this is obviously no the case as he has been shooting and releasing music videos left right and centre. Today saw the release of his fourth mixtape in a year and a half. Boy In Detention is a more hip-hop orientated collection of songs that has kindly been given to his fans to tide them over until the release of his new studio album Fortune. The set sees appearances by Kevin McCall, Justin Bieber and his rapping alter ego Shawty Mayne, Wiz Khalifa and more. Have a listen to the set after the break, download link provided also.
