‘Hide Yourself‘

Lost for words. I’ve slept on their music for a whole minute! silly me, so yesterday when my good friend @Miss_Tosin went on a RTing spree on Twitter, I finally gave 14th a chance. This track is simply sex the ears,  eargasmic. The blend of the duo’s soulful vocals and garage/electronica is incredible, the production is just perfect. ‘Me & You (This Christmas)‘

Lloyd serves the world another Christmas song, this time in the form of a more mellowed and scaled back arrangement compared to that Michael Jackson inspired mess of a track that is ‘She’s All I Want For Christmas’.

This song feels very Motown yet current at the same time. I’m liking all these Christmas song this year that don’t overtly scream jingle bells but yet are related to this festive time of the year. Enjoy!

‘Just Like That‘

KRS-One is one of those rappers I know I should really listen to more often, but for some reason don’t! ‘Just like that’ only validates the aforementioned statement; KRS raps about his career as well as hip-hop culture and history, all the while sounding smooth and inspirational. This is only augmented by the old school beat, complete with memorable horns. Suffice to say, this got the 5 star rating on my iTunes a while ago. I suggest you do the same.

‘World In Our Hands‘

Although he’s not my favourite artist in terms of lyrics, Taio Cruz can always be counted on to deliver some feel good music, and he’s consistently been rewarded with some big hits. ‘World in our Hands’ is off the upcoming ‘TY.O’ album set to be released in the UK January 2012 and it’s another guaranteed club banger. Whilst the lyrics are quite simple, the track is very positive and catchy. I’m hoping to hear something a little bit different from Taio when the album drops next month as this is his bread and butter but in the meantime, I can definitely jam to this!

‘December Sky‘

I love love love Dawn Richard’s voice. She was and is my favourite member of Danity Kane and somehow manage to capture my attention more than Diddy when she joined forces with him during his latest effort to capture solo rap glory (although technically he wasn’t solo as he had Dawn and Kaleena by his side at all times)

Dawn has been working on solo music for quite some time now and has plans to release a trilogy of music. Having already given us a taste of what she has to offer via the release of her mixtape ‘A Tell Tale Heart’. She is gearing up to release her first solo album. December Sky is her first single to be released on iTunes and sees Richard singing to those who miss and won’t be able to see their loved ones during the Christmas period.

‘A lot of people won’t be able to see their loved ones this Christmas… Whether they are serving in Iraq/Iran, in the industry, or working a 9 to 5, the truth is a lot of us aren’t able to make it home for the holidays. A couple of months ago a Youtube video accompanied by simple on-screen lyrics was released for Lloyd’s single “Dedication To My Ex” from his new album, King of Hearts. The track was an ode to Motown style R&B and featured Lil Wayne and Andre 3000. Guaranteed hit you’d assume? But in the same way that Cee-Lo Green’s “Fuck You” was way too explicit for the MTV daytime audience, music execs replaced some of the rude words on the “Dedication To My Ex” track in a hope for mainstream success. And thus, what could have been fun, risky visuals narrating Lloyd swooning about missing his unfaithful girlfriend’s sex – starring two of the best MC’s of our time…is instead a censored, extremely-standard music video set in a garage featuring Wayne Brady attempting to pass off as a non-dreadlocked/tattooed Lil Wayne, and a cat miming along to Andre 3000′s verse. Weird. Well at least Lloyd cut off his hair. Peep the video after the jump.

Replace the world “Loving” with the word “Pussy”  (34 times) – throw in a couple more rude words and some genuine attitude…and you’ll have the original song! How freaking scary is that weird cat miming along to Andre 3000′s section? I mean I guess the pussycat’s cameo is meant to represent the absence of the word pussy in the main song, so the director was trying to creatively make up for the absence of my favourite rapper. But as for the Lil Wayne fill-in, now that’s just cheap – imagine how Wayne Brady feels, an actor trying to make his name and be taken seriously and instead his music video cameo consists of him sitting in a car miming along to incomprehensible lyrics of a jegging wearing, codeine-sipping crazy rapper. The times we live in. Regardless, the song is still pretty cool and can be found on Lloyd’s fourth studio album, “King of Hearts” which also features collaborations with Trey Songz, Young Jeezy, Chris Brown, Teyana Taylor(?), R.Kelly, Keri Hilson and 50 Cent.

I believe it has been two weeks since the last Shoulda Woulda Coulda post, I have been quite busy with going back to Uni and all that and almost didn’t write this post but I thought that leaving it for three weeks would have been too much. Yin Yang Twins

Apart from the occasional song (‘Wait (The Whisper Song)’ and Bun B’s ‘Git It’ for which they done the remix)) I rarely listen to the Yin Yang Twins. Personally I don’t see growth in their music and I feel that it is nothing ground breaking or lyrically profound, that being said I do actually really like the song ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ taken off their 2005 album U.S.A.

This is one of their only songs that I can say has some lyrical meaning which for me adds a certain authenticity or a strange sense of feeling that the song is real in comparison to some of the other bubble gum/fun songs that they have done (once again referring to Wait (the whisper song)).

The beat samples Human Nature a song by the legend that is Michael Jackson and it is one of the only beats that I have heard allow them showcase proper lyrical prowess. Although I am not necessarily a fan of the 2^nd verse due to D-Roc’s vocals I still can rock to this joint.

Had they of released this as a single I believe it would have been a hit. Granted the hit single from this album was ‘Wait (The Whisper Song)’ I think this would have been a hit for completely different reasons. Wait was one of those novelty songs, something different due to it beings rapped in a whisper, this I believe was one of the main reasons why it was a hit however ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ could have been a hit on the merit of it being a good song rather than a gimmick. In any event please enjoy the track.

Lloyd

I think I’ve mention before that Lloyd is one of the most underrated male RnB artists but I don’t think I’ve stated that his Lessons In Love album is probably the best male RnB album I’ve heard since Usher’s  Confessions.

I truly enjoy at least 8 or 9 from the 12 track album which in my opinion means that it can be classed as a great. ‘Sex Education’ I just one of a series of Lloyd songs that will feature in Shoulda Woulda Coulda. The singles that were released from the album I feel were picked in the wrong order. Girls Around The world featuring Lil Wayne should have been selected as the lead single instead of the Ludacris assisted ‘How We Do It (Around My Way)’ which in my opinion shouldn’t have been a single. ‘Lose Your Love’ and ‘I Can Change Your Life’ should have been singles but as they weren’t they are eligible for this post so expect to see them pop up sometime in the future.

‘1er Gaou’ technically shouldn’t really be allowed to feature in this post as it was released in France, Belgium and Switzerland however it wasn’t released in the US or UK and I deem them to be the most important music territories when concerning Shoulda Woulda Coulda. Maybe I’m making the rules up as I go along but hey it’s my post I’ll do what I like lol.

I deliberately chose this song simply to show off the fact that I think I have a diverse eclectic musical taste but if I really sit back and think about it I actually don’t possess the mass diversity I claim. My iTunes library is full to the brim of R&B and Hip-Hop however although not in my library I do in fact love many songs from a range of genres. I think my downloading days have slowed down considerably so that is probably why I don’t have more indie rock and pop songs but I guess this is a way for me to showcase my love for varied genres.

1er Gaou shot to number 4 in the French charts and propelled little known group Ivorian Magic System into notoriety. Although I have no clue what is being said I can still appreciate it, whenever I hear it I feel like I should dance. The title of the song in English reads First Fool and is based on autobiographical experiences of lead singer Salif “A’Salfo” Traoré. When he was an aspiring, poor artist, his girlfriend left him, but when he became a celebrity with Magic System, she tried to win him back, but Traoré turned her down. What do y’all think?

I LOVE music! and I would say that I am quite versatile with the genres that I listen to but R&B runs through my veins. Lloyd has long had my attention and I personally believe that he is one of the most underrated male Rn&B vocalists out there. His last album Lessons In Love is a true masterpiece and I say this because if I constantly play 8 or 9 of the 13 tracks on the album I consider the album to be a masterpiece. After signing with Zone 4/Interscope the former INC (Murder INC as previously known) star is readying his fourth studio release titled ‘King Of Hearts’ due for release in February 2011. Los Angeles based rapper Nipsey Hu$$le known for his street singles “They Roll” and “Bullets Ain’t Got No Name“, both featuring The GAME. He’s just released another single off his upcoming debut LP, South Central State Of Mind.  The song is called “Feelin‘ Myself” and features singer Lloyd on the track. There is no set date to when the album is coming out. But Nipsey is sure to be bringing back the raw “Gangsta” California rap vibe to the game. Listen to the song after the cut.

It’s been a slow week in terms of music and I haven’t had the chance to catch up with all the albums that have dropped this week. I’ve got a few tunes for ya’ll though, not as much as last week though. I’ll start off with a R&B all star remix of Trey Songz‘s Invented Sex. The remix features Mr.Confessions and Miss Keri Babyyy and it is fire.  Flip the hood for the link and the rest.

Usher is starting to find himself again and it’s about time because the last album was average. Whereas Trey is on top of his game, he’s really come along way since his debut album. My favourite R&B artist atm.

“Normally I play the nice guy,” Usher sings over the same beat as the original. “Tonight I’mma show the other side.”

You can pretty much where he’s headed as he has fun remixing Trey’s now famous call-out from the original. “Which two of y’all going home with Usher?” he sings. Also attached is a remix of Say Ahh featuring Jeezy. BTW Trey didn’t invent sex, I did.
