I came across this article on the Guardians’ website a moment ago and thought it was pretty interesting. They have complied a list of 100 influential figures in the UK music industry for 2011; the list features reconisble names such as Adele, Jay-Z, Will-I-Am and Lady Gaga. But its not just a list of the front line as they have also included, labels, managers, broadcasters, retailers, promoters and various other roles behind the scenes. I must say there are a few surprises in there, I was expecting to see Beyonce and even Rihanna in there- especially since she killed the UK charts with her album sales earlier this year. With Adele claiming the No.1 Spot check the full listing after the break.

Lady Gaga appeared on SNL last night and while we normally don’t post about her I feel like I have to in this case. As with any guest on the show she participated in a comedic skit, alongside Justin Timberlake who was hosting the finale show. Its the 90′s song skit that has prompted me to write this post because in the clip we get to see what Gaga would look like if she stopped wearing tea towels and buckets on her head. Donned in classic 90′s clothing and hairstyle its the first time that i can say i’ve looked at her and said ‘Yeah she looks really nice’ might I dare say she even exuded a glimmer of sex appeal. For her talent is undeniable but her outlandish theatrics are tiresome and less shocking as each outfit passes. This insight to a relatively normal dressed Gaga is actually more shocking to me. Anywho peep the video after the cut.

So we’re all intrigued to find out who else will be joining Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid on the US version of the X Factor. However Simon and Cheryl Cole might not be sitting on the judging panel by the time the UK begins its eighth season later in the year. This would be reminiscent to a UK act succeeding in their homeland charts and then heading over to the US to focus all their attention and energy across the pond to live “the American dream”.

Having just shown you the Mugler 2011 Fall/Winter campaign featuring Rick Genest I think its only appropriate to draw your attention to an interview with the brand’s creative director Nicola Formichetti that I read on the HintMag website a few days ago. He recalls his first encounters with Rick and what he had to do to get him to model in the Mugler catwalk show. At this point I think its important to point out that before this creative director got in contact, Rick was sleeping on the street due to homlessness and now he is the face of Mugler and was the main attraction in Lady Gaga‘s lastest music video for ‘Born This Way‘. This is testament to the fact that good time can happen. Please read as its quite moving, sort of.

First off. I’ve never been a fan of Lady Gaga and I never will be one. I don’t like her stance on individuality or the way she pushes the boundaries of society. There’s a fine line between individuality and craziness in my opinion. However I adore Supreme and their brand identity. I’ve heard various rumours about their financial losses but this video gives off the impression that the NYC brand might be following in the footsteps of Johnny Cupcakes and opening up a store in our city. If so this is big news for you hipsters! the only thing I want is a Supreme sticker, love the typography. Peep the video of them plastering the Gaga posters in London on the reverse.

I watched the Nicki Minaj documentary on MTV last week. If you haven’t already I would suggest you do regardless of whether you are or aren’t a Barb or Ken Barb. The documentary is called ‘My Time Is Now’ and was first mentioned on the site here by DJB. You can watch the documentary on MTV as repeats are still being aired. The reason I say watch it whether you are or aren’t a fan is because of the way Nicki comes across.
