I first came across T.E.E.D through Calibre‘s remix of ‘Garden‘, which I played endlessly. This new single ‘Tapes & Money‘ will be released on 2nd April. If you want to play the genre game, it’s electro, powerpop, techno. Whatever that means! Just have a listen! A Camo & Krooked remix of this would be awesome!

‘Beautiful Surprise‘

It’s been 5 longs years since we’ve heard the sweet vocals of Miss Tamia but as Y&Y’s good friend Daley kindly reminds us on his mixtape “Good things come to Those Who Wait”.

Her appropriately titled new offering ‘Beautiful Surprise‘ was just that, a nice surprise. In all honesty I had kinda forgotten about Tamia until this little gem produced by Salaam Remi hit the web. Here’s hoping that the rest of her new material will sound just as good. P.S I love a good mid-tempo groove, this hits the spot!!

BEI MAEJOR

‘Special‘

It’s kinda hard to define Bei Maejor as before he has even released a full-length album he has showcased his ability to sing and rap. Though variety is great I find it hard to understand what kind of artist he is trying to be. That being said whether he raps or sings he seems to always deliver good music, a quality that I definitely understand.

On this new track ‘Special’ he raps over a smooth mid-tempo instrumental. His flow rides the beat with ease making the aural experience and very pleasurable one.

‘High Off Life‘

If I’m honest, I wasn’t particularly looking forward to this release till Dose Of Dopeness leaked out last week. It’s not for your average Hip-Hop fan since Kid Cudi has moved away from the sound that we all loved him for to a more rock/guitar riff infused one. Love that WZRD is project fuelled by creative collaboration rather than commercial reasons/industry pressure. That’s the way it should be.

‘Macchiato Music‘

I’d never heard of D-Why before this week but having heard this tune I think I’m gonna have do a lil background research. ‘Macchiato Music’ is cool track and displays Why’s obvious ability to deliver a good flow.

Having done a lil research (Lies, Yin forward me on to this) I found that he has his own blog, which is pretty cool. I like artists who showcase a bit more of themselves other than just the music, it makes them more relatable.

If you want a description for either the Murry James or Rita Ora track then just let me know. I didn’t write the descriptions for all the songs because I assumed you’ll get a few from the others.

‘Dose of Dopeness‘

If you’re a real Kid Cudi fan then you’ve probably had the 1-minute long live version in your iTunes library since July 2008. I have. Hoped it would drop with his first album but no, it didn’t. Two albums went by and still no sign of this Dot Da Genius produced wonder. Then it surfaces last week and it definitely lives up to the hype. Such a great song, Cudi at his best. WZRD out now.

‘Grew Up Fast‘

I love beats like this, sampling David Ruffin’s ‘Double Cross’ adds that souiful vibe to the song. He’s brutally honest in this track, summarises the state of the whole industry with this one line:

“It’s only right I brought back the soul/ Ya’ll got way too electro” 

Not sure if I agree with the metro/half way homo line but still a dope track. It made me go download the original sample in an instant!

CHRIS BROWN x RIHANNA

‘Birthday Cake (Remix)‘

If I’m talking purely about the music, it was one of the better tracks from Rihanna‘s ‘Talk The Talk‘ and lasting just over a minute (interlude) there needed to be a full track. The ‘Birthday Cake’ remix boasts senseless lyrics over a very danceable beat and I thought Chris Brown‘s inclusion on it was reasonable but hardly necessary. Never the less I love the song. In terms of the controversy surrounding the collab, it’s not the wisest of moves given that Chris beat Fenty to an inch of her life and also because once upon a time she was speaking against domestic violence. She’s supposed to be a role model for her younger audience, but the truth is if your a parent and you think pop stars are the perfect role models for your kids then more fool you!

‘D.U.I‘

Teyana Taylor is back with the second single taken from her hugely anticipated The Misunderstanding of Teyana Taylor EP. On this smooth groove, which features Jadakiss and Fabolous, it is clear to the ear that Taylor was inspired by Miss Janet Jackson. The little ode to Jackson is cute as is the song. Here’s hoping she has many more gems like this in store for us on the EP.

‘Elephant’ (No D/L)

Alexandra Burke performed an acoustic version of her upcoming single ‘Elephant‘ on That Grape Juice’s ‘The Splash‘. The original is a dance/electro track but she’s stripped it back and given a flawless vocal reminding me he great her voice is. Here is hoping that she’ll deliver more tracks like this and release some material in America where she’ll be appreciated!

I don’t know know a lot about Warren Xclne but I peaked, this track via a friends feed on my homepage (FB). Etta Bond‘s feature drew me in, I hit play and my ears and nostalgia for 90′s RnB were equal satisfied. Etta Bond’s slender tone reminiscences the bass line, new signee to Odd Child part of the SYCO imprint . And all I say is watch out for this chica she is on the up and up. Enjoy!

‘Brake‘

This is the kind of Kid Cudi music I enjoy. A little bit extrovert, psychedelic and weird. Haha. WZRD is the latest project from the G.O.O.D. music artist Kid Cudi & producer-friend Dot Da Genius and they’re set to unleash their début collaborative project in January 30th. If the album is anything is like his mixtapes and debut record then I’m excited. This track has a horror film vibe with the heavy guitar, real drums and slowly built up vocals.

As Tinie Tempah gets ready to release his much anticipated mixtape ‘Happy Birthday’ in the build up to the release he graces us with an unexpected collaboration which features UK’s very own Wretch 32 and Roc-Nation artist and man of the moment who is also supporting Tinie on tour J. Cole. ‘Like It Or Love It’ sees all three artists going at it, and mind you this track has already set the tone for the mixtape, produced also by UK producer SX.

‘Ten to One‘

Shontelle has been likened with Rihanna on many occasion’s since stepping out with her debut ‘T-Shirt’ and although I think that they are two completely different artists. This latest song from the songstress does nothing to discourage the comparison. It’s the fact that she has moved away from what was a very urban sound to a dancy floor filling sound reminiscent of Miss Fenty. However this is not an official single nor will it appear on Shontell’s next album, it is purely a gift she gave to her fans on thanksgiving to showcase what sounds she has been experimenting with. It’t nothing groundbreaking but it’s nice to hear someone transition to a more uptempo sound without it feeling forced and copycat.

Lupe Fiasco has solidified himself as one of the finest rappers in the game with three brilliant albums, the most recent of which is ‘Lasers’. ‘End of the World’ is off his recent mixtape ‘Friend of the People’ which I am currently listening to, and this track stood out for me. With motivational lyrics and a catchy hook, this track’s play count on my iTunes is guaranteed to rise very quickly. Favourite lyric – ‘The people united will never be defeated’.

SEASON FINALE! I hate that this episode left me wanting more and the wait is going to be epic as always with HBO series. Wonder what decision Ben will make after last week’s Crisp by Yosi nonsense? I haven’t watched this myself but you know me, always will to share so here you go. I’ve spent the past hour trying to get rid of a STYE that has randomly appeared on my left eye. Rude. I can barely open that eye at the moment. Might have to make myself an eye patch for the commute, guess I could pull it off because it’s Halloween today?! Le sigh. My plan is to run to Selfridges and buy a pair of glasses. Tom Ford. No prescription so I can wear it just for fashion/hiding stye purposes. Ya dig?

Ah great start to the week with a brand new episode of How To Make It In America. Not quite as lively as last week’s episode but still pretty damn good, a few new storylines have been introduced this week. I won’t ruin it for you! let’s just say I was a little disappointment with the opening scene. They could have shot it the same way as last week’s scene, you already know which one I’m talking about. It was a glorious.

Technically don’t have to be awake this early for once but my body just naturally gets up around 6:45-7. Sigh. I have a blood test to go to around 10, haven’t had one in years but they need to check if everything is fine, minor check-up. Last week saw the return of HBO‘s award winning series ‘How To Make It In America‘ and what a bloody start it was to season 2. The momentum picked up where it left off in Season 2 with the boys returning from Japan with a fully manufactured collection of clothing. Only to get stuck on the Metro and miss their brand Crisp’s launch night. I’m about to watch episode 2, join me after the cut.
