Ye never seems to stop amazing me and I love it. Which makes him to be one of my favorite rappers. If you follow Ye on Twitter you would know he wrote a lot about being in the studio with Swizz Beatz, Mos Def, and Kobe Byrant (why Kobe I don’t know but hey he was there) working on the “Power” remix. It’s like 1:18AM and on twitter then I suddenly saw Kanye had a new tweet and there it was the “Power” remix with the download link.  I had to give it a listen of course and sounded like heaven to my ears, Kanye West and Jay-Z annihilated the power remix. I could on and on about how Ye, Jay, and Swizz killed the remix but I’m going to allow you to hear that for yourself.  Listen and download after the cut.

Skullcandy have taken quite a turn as they team up with Jay-z’s Label Roc Nation to bring us the new Aviator headphones which will be available late September! I used to own a pair of Skullcandy headphones until that one fateful day I broke them- life has been shit ever since. No but they were really good quality headphones with crisp sound and of course the most important factor it had heavy base.

You can get these in either black, white or brown- I prefer the brown. I’m not sure how much these will retail in the UK but I suspect they wont be cheap because they’re made with premium materials like stainless steel and poly-carbonate from the frame to the ear cushions! I’ve been meaning to get myself a pair of Skullcandy headphones, think this is a winner- I quite like the shape as they mould to your head. This post has definitely turned into a fortnightly thing now! I don’t download as many songs as I used to so it’s best to wait a bit before I have a decent collection to share. I know Mike Posner‘s music sounds really electro-pop but I like it, it’s very summery and the beats are infecitous. I’m a big fan of his music since I heard his mixtape early last summer. He produces most of his music himself! and he also created most of this album while finishing his senior at university. ’31 Minutes Till Take Off’ due out on August 10th, go cop!

I’ve waited around 6 months for the studio version of ‘Please Don’t Go‘ and it doesn’t disappoint.

Ya’ll are most likely to remember this guy from Mario‘s single ‘Break Up’. He’s been around in the industry for a while now – one of those multi-talented folks that pretty much to do everything music-related – singer, rapper, producer. He’s actually written songs for Usher, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, 112, Chris Brown and many more. Like many producers turned singers, Sean Garrett‘s releasing his sophomore album in a few months and I think this is the 2nd single from his upcoming project.

Eric Benét reminds me of Maxwell, the lyrics are deep, brutally honest in fact. His vocal range like Maxwell is insane, I just don’t know how dudes can get their voice this high.

Alternative Ish

I don’t really have any alternative music this week but this track kinda qualifies for it. I love the Orchestra backing from E.S. Posthumus, for those that don’t know who they are -

They are an independent music group that produces cinematic style music. It is a form of classical that intertwines popular style drum rhythms with orchestral and electronic sounds. Their music is inspired by the Pythagorean philosophy which states that “music is the harmonization of opposites; the conciliation of warring elements”. The E.S. is an acronym for “Experimental Sounds” while Posthumus is a Dog Latin word that is meant to represent “all things past“

They worked with Jay-Z to create a special version of ‘Run This Town’ for a Super Bowl Commercial a few months back. Here’s the mp3 for it, it’s perfect work out music.

The guys Cookin’ Soul fuses Quincy Jones “Summer In The City” and Jay-Z’s “Hello Brooklyn” to make “Summer In Brooklyn” Being the Brooklynite I am, I just had to post this.  Anyone who is from BK or has been to BK knows that Brooklyn in the summer is dope. Everything from block parties, concerts, fashion shows, festivals to name a few. The video is shot in Black & White which kind of gives this reminiscent yet raw type feel. More after the cut.

I reminds why I love my humble abode Brooklyn. The video shows several snaps of some known spots such as grafitti spot 5pointz, the Brooklyn Bridge, Marcy Ave home of Jay-Z, the JMZ (BMT Jamacia subway line), Flatbush, Brownsville etc. Brooklyn holds so much greatness and it’s also the home of many greats. The atomsphere of Brooklyn is so real and it’s thriving. I love my home Brooklyn.

It’s true that they always save the best till last, Day 3 at the Wireless Festival definitely proved that. The main reason I wanted to go to the festival in the first place was to see Jay-Z. I’d have been happy if no one else showed up. More after the cut.

However I think it’s a little unfair to the other acts if I don’t mention them. Like the day 1 recap; I’ve chosen my top 3 acts, well number 1 ya’ll already know who it is. In reverse order:

3. Lily Allen

I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of hers to be honest, mainly due to her chav-like tendencies and antics. I do like to listen to her music every once in a while but too much of that accent can drive me insane. She was good live, definitely has her own style of vocals and lyrical choice. She’s no Beyonce vocally but she’s real, even told the pricks in the crowd to stop throwing bottles.

2. J. Cole

I expected most UK folk not to know his lyrics but boy was I wrong. At least half the crowd were reciting his lyrics when he started spitting the first song ‘Losing My Balance’. It’s the song that made Jay-Z sign the Fayetteville born rapper. He definitely got the crowd going on with multiple songs off his 2 mixtapes before ending the set with his first single ‘Who Dat‘. He split the crowd into 2; first called one side, the other west but that got boos, so he chose Arsenal and Man Utd which also got boos. He was like ‘fuck it, ya’ll are 1 and ya’ll are 2′, he got one side after another  to chant ‘who dat’. A star is born, watch out for his debut album.

1. Jay-Z

I spent the whole day, actually the whole week excited about seeing the Hova live. He was due to come on at 20:15 but 10 minute timer came up on the screen at that point. Most people including myself were tired as hell at this point ans Idiots were still lobbing bottles around but the second the NY rapper stepped on the stage everyone was energized and well behaved.

He started his set off with number 1 selling single off Blueprint 3 ‘Run This Town‘. Sadly my prayers weren’t answered and Rihanna didn’t show up on stage, oh well. I’ll see her in my dreams. Back to the HOV, he performed numerous hits from his recent album; including ‘Forever Young’ with an injured Mr. Hudson and ‘Empire State of Mind’ with the very fiiiine, Bridget Kelly. He went onto do a few of his classics before ending the show with ‘Encore’. He also gave an inspiring speech about how our generation can change the world. He has the money, the girl and the fame. *sighs* Throw your diamonds in the sky

There we have it, our Wireless festival coverage comes to a close. Hopefully next year, we’ll be able to get behind-the-scenes and meet a few of the stars. In other news, I’ve tanned like mad and now am the same colour is Yang, hold tight for Yang&Yang.com.

I’m so hyped about this Sunday, it’s Jay-Z day at Wireless Festival. It’s going to be fucking amazing, pardon my french. I don’t care what people say about his freemason/illuminati links! it’s all about his music. So I thought I’d dedicate to this post to the self-proclaimed JeHOVA of Rap. He is without a doubt up there with the greats, after the cut for my favourite classic songs from him.
