Eeek, is it shameful that I didn’t know FA Cup final was yesterday till I saw tweets on my timeline regarding a Chelsea vs Liverpool game? It took me a few moments to understand why folks cared so much about a match between the pair. Brazilian artist Andre Fidusi is the brains behind this minimalist series chronicling the evolution of the World Cup. It’s funny how he’s managed to subtly identify the essence of each World Cup and portray them using tiny illustrations. I’m sure all of you know what the 1966 poster is going to be – cross bar! Have fun trying to decipher each of the abstract designs.

Okay, I’m going to go refund my Canon 5D Mark II. This guy can draw more megapixels than my new camera could capture, mindblowing. Rick Fortson‘s celebrity portraiture are of the highest level. Each one of these drawings may take up to 17 hours, does that surprise you? Doesn’t shock me, just look at the level of detail. Never have I ever seen such flawless drawings in the past, it must be a gruelling task to create one of these with a just a pencil. In fact he goes by the name of Dr. Pencil, a self taught illustrator from the Mid-West, USA. This isn’t his daytime job, maybe he should reconsider and try make a living out of selling these masterpieces?! Just look at the drawing of the legendary Clint Eastwood, the way each in every wrinkle on his face has been captured perfectly. Mad. More on the reverse.

I know we’ve all done the above, don’t lie! Apologies for the lack of ‘art’ content in recent weeks, I’m going to change that starting with this post. Graphic designer Justin Barber takes a close look at some of the most common, everyday lies that we all tell ourselves and hear from others, and translates them into the brutal truth version below . In other words, ‘this is what you say and this is what you mean‘ type situations. I love how he’s visually converted each one into a poster with a bold graphic as the centre of attention. Have a gander at the rest of them after the cut, see if you can relate.

Last week, while we were wondering the streets of Rome – we came across some insane street art. It almost looked like the artist had printed it straight off Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop and stuck it on there but when I looked closely I could see all the intricate details. So when I got home I decided to research ‘Falice Pasquin’ on Google. Obviously I got her name wrong, Alice Pasquini is a multimedia artist based in Rome and from the looks of things; she uses ink, paper and Photoshop to create her masterpieces. Her artworks carry so much emotion and it’s like you can feel the feelings of the character’s featured. She’s states in her bio that her main subject is femininity and focuses mainly on strong & independent women. I like what she stands for and you can see it in her artwork, peep more of her work on the reverse.

As promised yesterday on Twitter, here’s the photograph of the new art installation outside of my university. The new series of summer shows which are called The Roundabout and this first show in the series is titled ‘Wide Open‘. The exhibition will feature work from students graduating from the Foundation Art & Design courses. I’m definitely going to check it out, love the art work on the container. Reminds me of So-Me‘s illustrating style.

Evan Dennis is a very talented director with skills spanning art, design and illustration. I think what drew me work is his natural flare for creating very structured live action with very convincing CGI to ‘good movie standard’- it blows my mind! The video i’ve posted is a teaser of China’s 361, where we watch a basketball player and an athlete doing what I think is a 100m sprint. I love the shot where the athlete is about to take off and we see sparks form by his heel, such detail in the flames as they trail to the finish line and the filming is immense. Watch after the cut.

This set of Formula 1 2011 World Championship season posters so simple yet so amazing. I bet some of you look at this and think ‘yeh I can do this’ but why didn’t you? The concept, the execution and arrangement of it all is superb. As a designer I know how painstakingly long it can take just to pick fonts and place the type in the right position. PJ‘s managed to do this perfectly in each one of his posters. I love the way he has incorporated all of the nation’s flags with a little twist in each one of them. My motherland’s one is pictured above, he’s picked the Taj Mahal as the landmark. If ya’ll can tell it’s India without reading the text then there’s something wrong with you! pick up a geography book. If you like them, have gander at the rest and maybe even buy a print from his store.
