There has been quite some hype over the return of a certain rapper; one of the best female rappers of our time. She’s also a record producer, a singer- songwriter and dancer who has worked with too many people in the music industry; notably with Timbaland. She and Timbo did some great things back in the day and recently the pair have been cookin’ up some shiz in the studio that a majority are eager to hear. This week’s throwback is dedicated to…

Oh boy, this was worth the wait. Remember London-based group, A Yellow Man? Christ-fueled hip-hop group emerged into the scene in late 2010 with a promo video then disappeared, leaving us wanting to know more. I’m not a big fan of UK based Christian hip-hop heck even mainstream hip-hop as it just never really feels authentic. Their visuals back then impressed me and now with the help of Paul Akinrinlola of PDesigns, I’m blown away by the cinematography. The dynamic trio’s flow is immense, easy to listen to and no ignorant lyricism – such a rarity nowadays, the profound lyrics filled with positive thoughts and light production just work so well. I’m really looking forward to hearing more, haven’t come across ANYONE like them in the UK. More on the reverse.

Happy Easter Y&Y readers!! Hope you’re all enjoying the last day of your long weekend of over-indulging in chocolate eggs and roasted lamb with your loved ones. Now, before you start guiltily googling “Dukkan Diet” after consuming the equivalent of Beth Ditto’s weight in Thorntons, check out my scoop on this months best music videos. Yes that’s correct, I’ve had to make Video Jukebox a monthly offering as working, attempting to go to the gym, learning to DJ, obsessing over 30 Rock and partying to Hip Hop is taking over my life and trawling the interwebs for the very best visuals is quite time consuming dontchaknow! Anyway, peep the jump for this months pick of videos including Danny Brown, De La Soul, Norah Jones, Odd Future, Kris Kasanova, Willis Earl Beal, Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr, Nemo Achida and xxxy. I’m sure there’s quite a few in there that you haven’t seen yet, and certainly won’t catch on MTV!

So it’s been at least a couple months since I last put a throwback post out so I called it swiftly before DJB or Yin could get inthere! I’ve taken this one back to the late 90′s which in my opinion was a good decade for hip-hop music. ‘Doin it‘ by LL Cool J is one of my favourite songs of all time, I used to blast it on my mini pc speakers when I was like 13 and with such lyrics I thank God my mum had NO clue what he was on about or it would have been that time for me. Only recently did I realise that actually this track is a sample of Grace Jones‘ ‘Jamaican Guy‘… did everyone already know that!? Anyway, listen to the track after the break.
