VOYR is our all access pass into the behind the scenes happening at Kanye and his big brother, Jay-Z‘s Watch The Throne tour. The daily video series will give us an insight into the hard work that goes into living life as Kanye West. Yes, they still work even after earning millions. Ye drops a plethora of quotables in this short first episode: ‘It’s a pursuit and responsibility. If people have done things before, you should be able to surpass them. I’m on a pursuit of awesomeness, excellence is the bare minimum’. BOOM. Inspiring, watch it on the reverse! Right off to bed I go..

The arrival of the fresh and undeniable sounds of Odd Future member, Frank Ocean, has finally hit London Town, and I couldn’t be more hyped. Having finally announced a set of headlining tours via his tumblr, the intimate setting of XOYO was selected for his sold out UK show (which funnily enough is where Jessie J performed for my last review), perfect for housing the soothing vocals of Mr Ocean. Having started at 9pm sharp, he had already impressed me with a feat many artists often take for granted – being ON TIME. But it didn’t stop there, despite performing entirely in solo i.e. no band, backup singer, hypeman or instruments and just a guy pressing play on a laptop, he had us hook line and sinker.

On Sunday Yin and I headed down to the beautiful Somerset House to see Californian singer-songwriter, Aloe Blacc, as part of the Somerset House Summer Series, sponsored by American Express. We arrived early to take advantage of the AMEX preferred seating programme which entailed entry to the sophisticated river-facing bar, some free drinks and a lovely chilled atmosphere.

Ed Sheeran launched his competition yesterday, one that could you win you a ‘house gig‘ for up to 20 friends. To win this intimate prize, all you have to do is film yourself performing what you think the opening act for the house gig should be and then upload it to Ed’s facebook wall! The winner will be decided next Thursday 19th May (sigh, the day we’re done with uni) as the competition will close this Sunday 15th May. The gig will be on Monday 23rd so only enter if you and your home are free that day! More info after the cut.

Promise this will be the last JB3 post till I drop the interview. Last night I went down to the show at Bloomsbury Ballroom with my lady friend and her friend, although the show started late due to Promoter fuckery. Jesse Boykins III’s performance was most definitely worth the wait; he has remarkable stage presence, personality and voice. Grown women were swooning over his voice, he didn’t have to take off his shirt like R&B crooners, Trey Songz and Usher. Why hasn’t God gifted me with such vocal powers? Gah. I managed to film a few of his tracks, put together highlights of him performing ‘Amorous‘ and his newest single ‘B4 The Night Is Thru‘. Enjoy the clip after the cut, it took me 4 hours to upload to YouTube!

To be honest, I slept on this guy’s music for a hell of a long time. I don’t know why I ignored SoulCulture‘s numerous posts on JBIII, alas, since writing this post on him a few months back; I have rinsed his music. For some reason his first single from his new album hasn’t leaked yet! the vinyl dropped earlier today but no mp3 in site. I for one will be purchasing ‘B4 The Night Is Thru’ off iTunes as soon as it drops. He’s going to be in London town this weekend to kick start his world tour ‘The Romantic Movement Tour‘. This is mood music, more information on the gig on the flipside.

*UPDATE* it’s on iTunes now, click here to buy.

J. Cole @ Cargo

So annoyed, pissed off, FML’ing right now. I didn’t write up a post for the Drake tickets sale as I knew I would be missing the concerts due to a friend’s wedding and guess what I’ll be missing this one as well. Ya’ll already know Fayetteville rapper J. Cole will be supporting Drizzy on his UK tour but we all know the Roc-Nation signee deserves a gig of his own. His debut album will be killer just look at the way his mixtape Friday Night Lights shut down the internet. So bummed that I will be missing him at Cargo but alas I got to see him at Wireless. The tickets go on sale at 9am today, after the cut to find out where to get them.
