Last week we were invited to the ‘Shwop Lab’ in collaboration with Marks & Spencers and London College of Fashion’s Centre For Sustainable Fashion. The purpose of the pop-up space at the Old Truman Brewery was to explore the future of fashion through a series of collaborations with the UK’s leading lights in sustainable fashion and design. The results…a collection of outfits made entirely from donated clothes and more importantly the ushering of a possible revolution in the fashion industry.

Located in the heart of East London’s fashion forward/vintage quarter; The Shwop Shop is the brainchild of M&S and the Unity Agency who are also the geniuses behind the below installation/stunt.

I was initially drawn to the event at the prospect of witnessing stylists and designers construct outfits from donated clothes (I sometimes have trouble doing this with my own wardrobe) however I was soon pulled into the thought provoking exploration and debate about the future of sustainable fashion led by fashion visionaries including Gary Harvey, Michelle Lowe-Holder and Dr Noki and his infamous mask. The initiative which they hope will revolutionise clothes shopping and help consumers to live a more sustainable lifestyle, builds on M&S relationship with Oxfam which has seen over 10 million items donated.

LTD have only been around since 2009 and within 3 years, they have made a good impression- taking classic timepieces and upgrading them with glossy accents and bold colouring that are always trendy. Limited edition, the £250 LTD Ceramic Chrono comes complete with a sapphire glass face deeming it virtually scratch resistant, a white ceramic body and bracelet with rose gold accents- this watch has luxury written all over it. Ceramic watches are a great addition to a summer look but honestly I’m not particularly crazy about this model just because white watches aren’t really my thing. Having said that, I think the mix of rose gold, white and silver to make up the chronograph display in the dial looks really cool. In comparison to Black Dice’s slick collection, this collection has got the edge on style; functionality… well I wouldn’t advise dropping it as ceramic watches were not made to be dropped!! On the plus side, the glass is fairly durable and it’s also 10ATM Water resistant. View here

The Olympic games are just around the corner but while the world anticipates it’s arrival I simply await the arrival of the different apparel collections that will be conjured up as a result of its presence. Adidas have been sponsoring Team GB since 1984 however its 2012 that i’m more concerned with. Peep this new Tailored Team GB Sport Collection. The collection includes outerwear, fleece, polos, shorts and more, the offer comes mostly in the colours of Team GB’s red, white and blue and adorned with the adidas Originals Trefoil. The collection will be hitting the shelves of Adidas Orignals retailers soon.

I’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, I appreciate a women’s fashion. I don’t know what is goign on in the waters down at the H&M desginers HQ but the be sippin on the good stuff. Not long a ago I introduced to you CJG (see here) the new shoe line to be sold at Topshop designed by Chloe Green. Thursday 17th May 2012 sees the launch of Chloe’s debut collection of shoes and the launch of her fashion brand CJG. May 17th is only round the corner so I thought it would be a good idea to showcase what it is you’ll be shopping for. So I think it’s safe to say that I will be rummaging through the shelves of H&M this coming season. There are quite a few pieces in this lookbook that have got the stylist in me gagging. Fresh from being inspired by one of the freshest cats around @mrflyycampbell this lookbook comes at a time where my eye for fashion and putting looks together is at its most absorbing. By this I mean i’m learning and getting inspired by those around me which in turn is making me that more interested and excited by style/fashion. Suit jackets, turtleneck sweaters, chinos, tailored pants, and mid-thigh coats all make an appearance in this lookbook, with the Suit and the various ways it can be worn being very much a focus this  upcoming season. “The suit is the most important garment for men at H&M this fall, and it’s amazing to see how it can be worn in so many modern ways. Girls if your shoe game isn’t up to scratch then you better get your act together. My pet peeve is a girl who wears shit shoes, it just gets on my nerves especially if her outfit is on point. Chloe Jade Green, of Made In Chelsea fame, isn’t resting on the fact that her father is one rich and hugely successful man (for those that don’t know he is the owner of Top Shop, Mr Philip Green). She has commendable stepped out of his shadow and focused her attention on her upcoming shoe line CJG. The line is set to be released to the world on May 17th but I wanted to give y’all a very limited preview and get y’all anticipating the collection. What looks to be a nice additional touch the soles of the shoes appear to be a shade of Jade/Green reminiscent of the red sole found on Christian Louboutin shoes, a clever idea to tie in the identity of the shoe with her name. Unlike like Louboutin’s the CJG collection will be much more affordable ranging from £80 – £200. Peep the very few pics after the cut and stay tuned for more info soon.

‘Dad would bring me in to meetings when I was 10 to show me how the industry worked. I would point out things I liked and didn’t like and I’ve been doing it ever since. I think he saw that I had an eye for clothes and design from an early age.’

I was fortunate to catch up with the good folk at STööKI ahead of their pop-up store today in Boxpark Shoreditch. My first encounter with the three creatives was during their takeover at the Tate Modern with their interactive art installation in collaboration with the Louis Vuitton art’s project. They spoke to Y&Y about their new collection on the reverse.

It’s often we hear about a new and emerging streetwear brands, how did your decision to infuse art into your apparel/jewellery differentiate Stööki from others?

The way we identify Stööki from other brands is by creating depth…creating a lifestyle behind the brand. By incorporating elements of art and music through our various events, we remove the distance from our audience thus being approachable and making our philosophy more transparent.

How did you come across the title of the latest collection – Obscura?

We stumbled across the word/concept whilst doing research and the collection has evolved with it. Obscura is a minimal symbology collection presented through the theme of light. The 3 elements showcased visually represent collaboration, interactivity and vision. These are fundamental to our process and a manifesto to which Stööki stands by.

The collection consists of§ black and gold statement pieces – earrings, rings and chains in addition to a collection of sweatshirts, t-shirts and snapbacks.

It is apparent that Stööki is more of a movement than simply a brand. How would you describe the kind of person your brand would appeal to?

We don’t believe it appealing to a single customer profile. We encourage a diverse range people to pose with our collection and add to our ever evolving look book which is present at all our pop-up shops. We wouldn’t define our audience, our audience defines us.

Your mic on the night will be a sharpie pen as you take to the Stööki panoramic ‘canvas’ stage. You will have a selection of well-known rap lyrics to spark your imagination, before you lyrically scribe your doodle. All your actions and 2-stepping will captured and made into an animation which will be premiered at Le Scratch in Concrete!

I think I’m gonna need the designers over at Givenchy to go and kick rocks with open toe shoes because this preview into what footwear they will have on offer for us this coming Autumn/Winter season is a HOT MESS! Long time readers will know how much I love my footwear (sneakers in particular) and I can safely say that I get offended when designers produce hideous silhouettes especially if they are going to charge extortionate prices. I’m gonna need for Givenchy to go back to the drawing board and come back with a stellar offering because this right here is anything but stellar.
