The idea that Hip Hop is a culture in itself, as well as a significant influence on modern culture in general is a concept that would go over a lot of people’s heads . Many are blind to the fact that this fascinating, electrifying culture planted its roots in 1960’s soul music, and now has branches in our 21st century’s music, fashion, philosophy, literature and lifestyle. “Hip Hop: A Cultural Odyssey” embodies this in a deluxe, 420 page leather bound coffee-table style encyclopaedia.

Rah. At first that was my reaction, then was like WTF @ Ca$his and Stat Quo‘s inclusion on this track but Shake later announced that this track is a few years old. So much for hoping Detox was coming real soon. I’m definitely feeling this beat, it’s classic Dre and some of the verses are ill. One thing I’m definitely not feeling is Eminem‘s singing, allow it. Peep the track on the flipside, let me know what you think!

The name Alex Da Kid should be familiar with readers as DJB first wrote about him here, with his post ‘Meet Alex Da Kid’. Since that post, 6 months have been and gone and during that time the London born producer has made even more strides forward in the industry. It would be hard to disagree that he created the biggest single of the year with Eminem and Rihanna. ‘Love The Way You Lie’ was the biggest selling song in the UK even though it only peaked at number 2.  It went one step better in the US though were the track spent 7 weeks at number 1, selling over 4 million units. As if that wasn’t enough, the song has now been nominated for 5 Grammy awards including ‘Record of The Year‘ and ‘Song of The Year‘. More on the flipside.

Everybody and their mamma fell in love with the original and now today part 2 of the powerful song ‘Love The Way You Lie’ has surfaced. Similar in the way Alicia Keys put her own spin on the duet she recorded with Jay-Z ‘Empire State Of Mind’, Rihanna has taken to the booth to lay down some extra vocals whilst Eminem delivers another hot verse. Initially a piano based broken down version of the track was recorded but then drums were added to give the song a new lease of life. You can expect to see the song placed on the upcoming Rihanna album Loud which is due for release here in the UK on November 15th. Listen to the song when you read on.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before but much like Yin is to Rihanna and Yang is to Alexandra Burke I think I’m in love with Nicki Minaj. My excitement to get my hands on an upcoming album hasn’t been this high In many a year and it was only heightened when I read the news that Pink Friday would sport 17 songs. A full and proppa album none of this 10 songs crap that artists seem to push in recent years. ‘Roman’s Revenge’ is one of the tracks to feature on the set and features lyrically acclaimed rapper Eminem. Surely Slim Shady and Nicki’s alter ego Roman Zolanski on one track can only produce FIRE? Check it out for yourself.

The video for Eminem‘s single ‘No Love‘ feat. Lil Wayne has surfaced! The track is off Recovery and at risk of being melo-dramatic, the video features a young boy enduring a life of bullying and how he overcame. Great video, great song but typical of Eminem if im’ honest; I like this, but I would like it miles more if Lil Wayne wasn’t on it; I’m rather tired of the dude squealing like a 15yr old on helium! I think Kanye would have been a far more suitable artist for this collab. Watch the video after the cut..
