With the recent launch of our new look site, I am happy to be finally doing the first post of my long awaited Unsung Heroes series. Around every star there is always a constellation of stars that also shine bright but often go unnoticed. This applies to the world of music. All successful artists work with geniuses in the background that fans do not necessarily know about or celebrate. I think it’s important to celebrate the musical geniuses behind the artist who make a significant contribution to creating the music and iconic status for the artists that we love. This is a post series of interviews celebrating guitarists, drummers, pianists, DJs, producers, engineers, choreographers and artist managers of the music world. A celebration of the “UnSung heroes”. Y&Y presents UnSung hero #1 Okiem Warmann, accomplished pianist, producer, songwriter and founder of successful youtube site “wannaplaypiano”. Interested yet? Check the Interview on the flipside.

VOYR is our all access pass into the behind the scenes happening at Kanye and his big brother, Jay-Z‘s Watch The Throne tour. The daily video series will give us an insight into the hard work that goes into living life as Kanye West. Yes, they still work even after earning millions. Ye drops a plethora of quotables in this short first episode: ‘It’s a pursuit and responsibility. If people have done things before, you should be able to surpass them. I’m on a pursuit of awesomeness, excellence is the bare minimum’. BOOM. Inspiring, watch it on the reverse! Right off to bed I go..

Seeing as DJB’s taking over the Dope Quote for today, I felt I needed a way to On second thoughts, I’ll be doing Dope Quote after I finish writing this post. Steve Jobs passed away over a month ago and he’s still pretty much in the media spotlight. His legacy will live on forever but what made him so special in comparison to his competitors? We get to see the visionary’s creative thinking during a NeXT brainstorm in the period of his career that where he picked up a lot of skills that have made Apple a success. This video is a snippet taking from a series called Entrepreneurs that documents the creation of NeXT from a behind-the-scenes perspective. Notice how he quickly shuts down any stupid ideas from his team. Truly amazing footage from the vault. Watch it on the reverse.

The Beckham brand is really something else. It just keeps getting bigger and bigger even though his footballing career is in its last chapter. He’s a true professional, idol to many because of his style, lifestyle, footballing skills and more. He’s just had his 3rd kid and is now set to unleash a new fragrance into the world. Introducing Homme (gosh, could have thought of a more original name?!) – the lads over at GQ sat down with him behind the scenes at the LA-based campaign shoot and spoke to legendary DB7 about style, inspiration and more. Ladies will probably dig the video. I’ve got to give Becks props for popularising men’s grooming “I think it’s always important for a man to look after himself,” He says. “It’s something that I’ve always done and that I will continue to do.” Amen! This is so dope. The video for Kanye West‘s single Power has been shot and is now being edited in the studio, this video shows the production process behind it and what we can expect from the final cut. It looks nuts to say the least – the video has been inspired by Michaelangelo’s frescos in the Sistine Chapel, the artwork that depicts faux historical movement of an empire on the brink of collapse due to its own excess and corruption. Before ya’ll start calling for Ye’s head because of the devil horns featured in this video – lookback to College Dropout, track number 7 – Jesus Walks. Video after cut.

Now we all know that technology has come along way but could we have ever imagined a time when making movies, adverts and music videos with just a mobile phone became the norm. Well with the new iPhone 4 that time has arrived. A couple of students from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts, Michael Koerbel and Anna Elizabeth James, have written and directed an entire movie – well a short film called “Apple of My Eye” using the newest incarnation of the iPhone series as the camera and editing device all within a 48 hour time frame. View the short film and behind the scenes footage after the cut.

This is epic. I’ve seen videos of how Jay-Z works in the studio in the past and love how he comes up with his verse on the spot, the guy is a master of his art. I’ve had the song on repeat since it leaked yesterday, some of the lyrics from both of them are genius. This footage taken from Teflon Don: The Bossumentary features dope backstage as Ross plays Hov the beat and his first verse before Sean Carter drops his bars. Video, track and lyrics after the cut.
