‘Like Us (Resistance Remix)‘

Earlier this week Mike Hough took to twitter and stated that he had a melody in his head that he thought would fit perfectly with Drake’s ‘Resistance’ instrumental. Within a couple hours he had recorded and uploaded what he had been envisioning. In my opinion the outcome is pretty dope. Talent cannot be denied and there’s no doubt about it that thus guy has talent in abundance.

‘Warning Shot’

Cassie has been teasing people with the idea that she was due to make a comeback however these rumours had been circulating for years without any releases. Now all of a sudden she has released her new single (with video) ‘King Of Hearts’ and now can be heard on the Machine Gun Kelly track ‘Warning Shot’. MGK has decent flow that doesn’t detract from the song but if I’m honest I think it’s the beat and the fact that Cassie is on the track that sparked my interest. The track is taken from MGK’s EP entitled Half Naked & Almost Famous.

I love retrospective rap. I feel like this is when rapper are most sincere, the honesty and vulnerability is endearing. Taken from B.o.B’s forthcoming album Strange Clouds ‘Where Are You’ is a soft heartfelt track that will resonate with anybody who knows anybody (or it could be you) who has changed because of certain situations or circumstances, be it fame, money or a relationship they are in.

‘Won’t Make A Fool Out Of You’

Former X-Factor USA contestant Marcus Canty is hear with his first musical offering since coming 4th on the TV show and signing a record deal with Epic Records courtesy of LA Reid. The track is set to feature on the soundtrack of Think Like A Man. Although the song is good, I can’t help but think that this sound too much like a Mario cast off and on top of that it’s very dated, this type of R&B no longer sells like it used to.

‘Radio Song’

Taken from her new album ‘Radio Music Society‘ the track speaks about that feeling you get when you hear a song that captures you, indeed I got that feeling the minute I heard this. As per usual, stunning vocals from Esperanza as well as a simple video- a true concept that everyone can relate to and she‘s gorgeous. It is very much a Jazz track, but this number has some mainstream appeal, love it.

This is on Nike‘s level of advertising. Adidas have most certainly gone all in with this new advert. ‘Heart over head. Inclusion over ego. United by passion, we go all in.’ In the advert, you see the likes Lionel Messi, B.o.B., Katy Perry, Derrick Rose, David Beckham and more. The cinematography is amazing and editing is really something else. What really tops it off is the Justice soundtrack, it’s the French electro duo’s new single titled ‘Civilization‘. After watching the advert, I have rediscovered my love for electro. They were one of my favourites, the new album will most certainly be copped. Watch the advert on the reverse.

I was supposed to post this much earlier but due to a combination of excessive drinking, loud music and tiredness I failed to deliver this on time. Here we have the new music video for friend of the site Jessie J‘s newest single ‘Price Tag’. The B.O.B assisted track is taken from her forthcoming debut album and is more of a reflection of who Jessie is as an artist and what we can expect from the album. The hard hitting ‘Do It Like A Dude’ was an introduction to the mainstream and now ‘Price Tag’ is it’s mellow counterpart. Peep the video on the flipside.

The name Alex Da Kid should be familiar with readers as DJB first wrote about him here, with his post ‘Meet Alex Da Kid’. Since that post, 6 months have been and gone and during that time the London born producer has made even more strides forward in the industry. It would be hard to disagree that he created the biggest single of the year with Eminem and Rihanna. ‘Love The Way You Lie’ was the biggest selling song in the UK even though it only peaked at number 2.  It went one step better in the US though were the track spent 7 weeks at number 1, selling over 4 million units. As if that wasn’t enough, the song has now been nominated for 5 Grammy awards including ‘Record of The Year‘ and ‘Song of The Year‘. More on the flipside.

5 Grammy nods alone is a great feat, but the producer actually has a total of six for the 2011 event, as ‘Airplanes Part II‘ by B.O.B featuring Hayley Williams and Eminem is up for ‘Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals’. This track went to number 1 in the UK, but peaked only at number 2 in the US, but still went on to sell over 3 million copies.

It’s clear the 27-year-old US resident has a knack of producing top Hits, but many people will be wondering if such success can be matched. That success being the commercial and critical success Alex had with the two mentioned Grammy Singles, as well as ‘Massive Attack’ with current “it” girl Nicki Minaj, the pressure will be on, but the producer might not have to worry about that as he’s given us another 3 top tracks as well as a 4th which is yet to be heard.

The first track to be discussed was a gamble when I first heard about the idea, as it was to be the sequel to ‘Love The Way You Lie’. This time though the artists in question would swap roles. Rihanna again sings the hook, but also sings two verses and a bridge, we are treated to a single Eminem Verse this time round. The song is stripped down in comparison to the original as Rihanna and Eminem tell there story over a piano and drums. The red haired trend setter herself was not so keen on the idea, and told MTV in an interview that initially she was “very against” recording a sequel and “felt like the original couldn’t be beaten”. I myself don’t think the song is better than the original, but this is due to the fact the original was so good. Just like many sequels in music and movies, nothing really beats the 1st. Saying that, I am still a big fan of the song. What really made the first song and does again here is the chorus. I’m sure that once you hear the song, just like the first you will fall in love with it and be singing the chorus all over again.

My favourite track from the 3 that Alex has recently worked on is the collaboration between T.I. and Christina Aguilera, ‘Castle Walls’. I’ve been looking out for this song ever since I saw the track listing off T.I.’s latest album ‘No Mercy‘. I had heard a 30 second preview of the song a few weeks ago, but felt cheated as I wanted to hear the whole song there and then. However as the saying goes, good things come to those that wait, and wait I did. It’s true! The saying is true. I was not disappointed with the song. Here we have one of, if not the best vocalists of our generation in Christina, teaming up with the King of The South and proven hit maker, with very successful singles and albums T.I. Add to this combination a proven hit maker in Alex Da Kid and you have yourself a very powerful song that I believe will be a Future commercial hit. This will be the next single to be released off ‘No Mercy’ thankfully, so I’m guessing the video has already been shot, as T.I. is behind bars once again.

What will drive this song is the outstanding chorus sung by Aguilera, like was the case in ‘Love The Way You Lie’ and ‘Airplanes’ with their respective vocalist. The song opens up with Christina Singing “Everyone thinks that I have it all, but it’s so empty living behind these castle walls, If I should tumble, if I should fall / Would anyone hear me screaming behind those castle walls?” Brace yourself for another chorus you are sure to be Repeating over and over again. T.I. then Raps a heart felt verse then it’s back to christina with the chorus which just get’s better as the production by Alex get’s into full swing. The song is a masterpiece and the best off the album I think. Have a listen for yourself. I assure you will share my opinion. This is Christina Aguilera and T.I. at there very best. Christina doesn’t over do herself as she tends too, and this is when I think she is undoubtedly the best female singer in music.

The final song is released off Diddy Dirty Money‘s delayed record ‘The Last Train To Paris’ titled coming home which feature Skylar Grey, who I’m sure we are going to be hearing a lot more of in the year ahead. I’m going to sound a bit repetitive, but once again it is the chorus that is simply breathtaking. The Acapella at the start gives me goosebumps with every listen, it’s that good. The song has just been released and the accompanying video has also been made available to view. With this song the producer surely has another commercial song, as the production is second to none. I believe that all 3 song’s set to be Released will have the same success that the former 3 had, and their is still a fourth song by Dr Dre. that features Eminem and Skylar Grey called ‘I Need A Doctor’ to come out. It’s clear that Alex Da Kid is at the top of his game, and for me personally he is the best Producer in the game right now.

This guy is heavily underrated in my opinion, he touches on the subject in one of the tracks that leaked a few weeks back ‘Beast Mode‘. It’s got major plays on my iTunes this week, mainly because I need to turn ‘Beast Mode’ on with my university work which I’m kind of slacking on at the moment. Enough of me, B.o.B released his much anticipated mixtape yesterday, check it out after the cut. I haven’t had a chance to listen to it myself but it’ll be my fuel for  journey tomorrow into Central London. Fun.

If this guy doesn’t blow up this year, I’ll eat my favourite pair of sneakers. Most of ya’ll should know him by now thanks to the songs with Bobby Ray and Travie McCoy. This Hawaiian-born singer is an exceptionally talented vocalist whose voice reminds me a little of Robin Thické but a younger, more ‘edgier’ vibe to it. Easily one of my favourite songs of the year, B.o.B.’s 3rd single off his debut album that features Paramore singer, Hayley Williams. I’m surprised after her recent twitpic topless scandal, she actually twitpic’d a topless photo of herself instead of direct messaging it to her boyfriend. #epicfail.
