I think it was mid-April whilst shooting a brand’s lookbook with the rest of the team when the email from the agency arrived in my inbox, much to my disbelief it contained an invite to Malta in May. Yo, I wasn’t expecting that but I’ll take it, any escape from the city life is a good one. Malta though? I wasn’t expecting much, heck I didn’t really know anything about the Mediterranean island off the coast of Italy. It’s not a place that my friends have spoken about previously about visiting so I had no idea about what to expect aside from the quick Google image search. Read on.
As you may have noticed (from the barrage of runway updates on twitter and street-style shots on Instagram this week) London Collections: Men has just wrapped up its 3rd season. For those unfamiliar with the bi-annual showcase…think of ‘LCM‘ as London Fashion Week dedicated solely to the appreciation of menswear. As the rest of the fashion parade set their eyes on Pitti Uomo & Paris Showrooms…here is a recap of our favourite shows, looks and everything else in between…
Oliver Sweeney have recently introduced their latest collection dubbed The Compass Collection. You could be forgiven if you thought that they has spread their wing and ventured into making beautifully crafted compasses, however you’d be wrong. The Compass Collection is in fact a new contemporary casual collection expertly fashioned using materials from one of the greatest tanneries in England, Charles F. Stead.
During the Y&Y site hiatus and redesign, we were invited down to the Energy Boost launch where adidas unveiled a new running shoe that it claims will be a revolution in the running scene. We were intrigued by the bold claims and over the last 10 weeks, Annabel and I have put the trainers to the test. Check out the visuals and read about our experience after the cut.
We’re blessed at Yin&Yang to individually and collectively have some very, very talented mates. Yin mentioned how strange he found it interviewing good friend Folaju in our last feature – well, in this feature we broke bread with my good friend, Shadez The Misfit. The 22-year old South London up-and-coming rapper – who performed at our launch event – is currently working on his latest material while also keeping his hand in fashion and design. While stuffing our faces with goodness from Apostrophe, we spoke about food, music, fashion and influencing the masses.
Last week we celebrated the 140th birthday of the iconic 501 jean, this week we’re paying homage to the blue jean in our own special way. Of course, we’d tie in our city into it. No place like home, baby. When you think denim, you naturally think Levi’s. I know the post modern ‘hipster’ would respond with [insert Japanese selvedge denim brand] and New Balance sneakers. It’s the current contrived combination that seems to be going around, for me – it’s always been about Levi’s. Not just because of their strong clean branding (I’m a design nerd like that) but for the comfort and versatility.
If you’re an ‘arts’ enthusiast, then you might have come across work by James Mylne. James is a Biro Artist. A Biro Artist has the ability to create a work of art with nothing more than a Biro pen. It sounds like such a simple craft but actually the intricacy, patience and discipline it takes to do this, is crazy! I came across some of James’ work back in 2011 when he was featured at a joint exhibition with a group of other artists at the Signal Gallery in Hoxton.
