Quick post from me. Apologies on the lack of updates as of late, juggling work and everything has been harder than I thought. I’m working on a few changes here but I haven’t actually touched the design in over a week – sigh. Another big reason for the lack of updates is the riots, I just don’t feel right blogging about fashion, art and music with the city (country now) falling apart around me. All this chaos, madness has demotivated me. However strong positive movements like Riot Clean Up bring a smile to my face. Nationwide community clean up plans and times have been organised, all you have to do is check out the site & twitter, find out the time & place and help out.If you don’t have to go into work, please help out. Let’s make a stand as a community, positive thoughts people. Don’t forget to hashtag #riotcleanup.
London, I love you but you’re killing me now. Honestly speaking I’d feel a little insensitive if I posted something that’s not related to the current happenings in the city. I’m angry, frustrated and depressed by what has happened over the last 3 days. Some of the videos I’ve seen feature kids gallivanting destroy buildings with petrolbombs and complaining about tax? WHAT TAX DO YOU KNOW ABOUT? Seriously when I was 15, I certainly did not pay tax. Foolishness. I can’t be arsed to get into this on here, just go read my tweets over the past few hours/day: @Niran7. These kids will pay the price for this unjustified violence and destruction in the future, just you wait. A lot changes have to be made, this was inevitable. Global economy is about to collapse any day now. Hold tight folks, judgement day soon come?
Having been founded in 1843 on July 10th the New of The World tabloid newspaper will cease to exist. The closure of the paper comes in wake of serious claims of malpractice by some of the staff that work behind the scenes to get this paper ready for publication every week. Allegations of phone hacking going back as far as 9 years have come to light and with many of the papers integral members of staff either resigned or under investigation it is clear that these Allegations are not unfounded. It’s being reported that over 4000 people have been hacked by people working for the paper many of whom are celebrities and even some Royals. The sad fact of the matter is that with the abrupt announcement of the paper’s imminent termination a large number of people who will loose their job would have had nothing to do with the scandal. More on this story after the cut.
Before you ask this has nothing to do with one those MTV programmes but this is a promotional video for a good cause, The David Cornfield Melanoma Fund, as part of Melanoma Awareness month (this month!). It’s a video of several real people addressing their own 16-year-old selves by sharing stories about their struggles with Melanoma. So with summer just around the corner remember Everybody’s Free To Wear Sunscreen.
I love the art of journalism, but I always wondered how journalists could travel to other countries to report literally from the firing line! From what I’ve seen it takes alot of courage and passion for the job because photographer John Moore has done it plenty times. I came across this guys work today and I have got to say, it tells the story like no other > news. John put together a powerful presentation if you like, depicting the grueling events surrounding the Middle East & North Africa and while his level of photography is amazing I found a lot of these images quite heartbreaking, I have to say I’ve never seen a battle field so close up such as this. His voice in the background describing his epic journey is quite captivating a real shock too for people who don’t know the real goings on over there! It just goes to prove that we’re never getting the coverage that we should, so thank you to John Moore for putting this together. Peep some quality photo journalism after the cut.
Ok I lied about only posting once tonight. Me not posting more than once is as rare as Jordan not appearing in the headlines of a tabloid paper. I really had no clue that the 22nd March was World Water Day and this short video filmed and directed by Andrew Hinton of Pilgrim Films was used to promote it. It’s In Your Hands is a beautiful promo video, it’s been exceptionally well shot and the sound works so well. Definitely gets the message across, simple yet powerful stuff. We take water amongst other things for granted, video on the reverse.
