Topman have one of the most diverse menswear denim ranges in fashion at the moment and they have whipped up a new campaign to illustrate this. Part of this campaign led them to collaborate with up and coming film director Laurence Ellis to create a series of short films that will showcase Topman’s extensive denim range and is set to launch on the their website on October 4th 2010. There is a dedicated Denim section on the site that allows users to navigate through the collection featuring all the different cuts and washes: jeans featured in the films such as the arc, carrot and skinny fit will also be available in the collection. The aim is essentially to get people in the know about Topmans jeans and inspire men to try new styles and fits.

Like I said the videos will be up on the website 4th October so keep an eye out for those.

I wasn’t always this fashion forward, in fact I didn’t even care about what I wore back in the day. All that mattered was the brand name on it; Nike and Adidas were the only 2 fashion brands I respected back then and their sportswear brands not even fashion. It’s so embarrassing to admit but my style has most definitely grown since then, I don’t know what has sparked the change. In the first photo I guess I was rocking the ‘I only care for my studies’ geek chic look, then by the time I was 18, I started to care about my appearance. I thought I knew fashion but I clearly didn’t, this is what ghetto rude boys would claim to be dressing up for a night out is. Eesh. (the 2nd photo is from Gangster/Chav Night)

Then the next year, the year in which I took a gap year. My style never really progressed much. Though I start purchasing a lot of sneakers, usually plain, dark coloured kicks. I didn’t have the confidence to wear bright colours still.

After starting at LCC, my style really changed. Along with everything else in my life, I become more open-minded towards fashion, more confident, reinvented myself in a way I guess. I can say for most part of my first and second years, I could have been classed as the fresh kid/hipster. Hence the tag line of this site: ‘2 fresh kids , 1 blog’. Checked shirts, bright colour-coordinated ish, graphic prints, hi-tops, matching caps – that was what I mainly rocked. I’d like to think I rocked the style before it became played out like it is now.

The start of the second year, (Sept, 09) I started switching my style up a bit – darker colours, plain tees, dark jeans and boots. In fact last year, I’m sure I got called ‘batty’ for wearing them and now look at how every other ‘ghetto’ narrow-minded folk wearing it now. Ya’ll slow.

And now I’m even getting over the sneaker hype, well I’m leaning more towards the more refined kicks like Gourmet as well as shoes, desert boots. In terms of clothing, I aim to wear more tailored cuts – blazers, shirts, cardigans and knitwear. I’ve already started the movement – #grownmanetiquette.

Wow. My jaw actually dropped when I saw the photos over at Freshness Mag, I just knew I had to share. Olive took me to Flight Club‘s other stores in Soho during our trip to NYC and I was impressed by the range of sneakers they have but they don’t compare to this store. I’m just blown away by this one! If you put me in the Playboy mansion, you’d get a similar reaction. I want them all. The sneakers that is, more photographs after the cut.

Paradise?

Those who are into the modelling industry may already know about the young man I am about to talk about but for those who view this industry as foreign figure, I would like to introduce to you Ashley Stymest. 19 year old Ash Stymest, as he is better known, is a male model signed to Select Model Management. If you are, in what I presume to be, the majority of people who do not know of his modelling work you may recognise his from MTV as he is the presenter of MTV Bang. Not much can be said about his early life so I will bring the story forward to the early stages of his modelling career. In 2008 at the age of 17 he was signed to Models 1 which was his initial break but I would say his first major break was being spotted and personally selected by renowned French fashion designer Hedi Slimane to do personal work. It was this collaboration which led to Ash earning his first magazine cover, photo of him shot by Slimane were used of debut issue of the Japan Vogue Hommes.

Since then his career has gone from strength to strength and in his short career he has managed to eclipse the highlights of other male models entire careers. Numerous magazine covers and editorial spreads plus his debut on the catwalk in which he walked the 2008 Balenciaga spring show in Paris.

Moving away from this unintentional biography style of writing I would like to express why I have drawn your attention to this guy in the first place. A few weeks back I stumbled across work that he has done in the past and I was amazed by how much I liked his work. It is his ability to transform into a real model in his photos.

What I mean by that is, if you were to see him on the street or even on MTV Bang you would just see him as any random tattooed white boy (it is the tattoos that bare significance). Somehow he manages to take his tattooed self and transform into this male model without looking out of place. We are used to seeing well groomed, toned bodied, tattoo-less men used in advertising campaigns and on the cover of magazines so to see this skinny indie drummer skater boy get his model on and pull it off well is refreshing to see.

I present to you Ash Stymest

Versatile Adidas brand: Adidas SLVR, bring us a closer look at the a/w 2010 collection of footwear. Based on these photos, the collection depicts a variety of hi and low tops, all different shapes, which I think is very rare in a lot of sneaker collections. They’ve also used quite a few bright colours but we are also seeing some black and a dark red. I am liking this collection because of its diversity, they are available as of now in Adidas stores so get moving if you want a pair!

The purpose of this post is to highlight a person who I consider to be a Style Icon and share my views on why I think this is so. Pictures of the person in question dressed in some key looks that made me think of this person as a style icon will be included. This could turn into a series of posts featuring a different style icon each time but I’m not sure yet, any who the first person selected as a style icon is a person who himself has become a walking brand. Today’s post will focus on the style of David Beckham.

For a while now I’ve been thinking that I need to change up my style game. Fashion is an industry/commodity that I have increasingly become more interested in and I would say that this is mainly due to my involvement with Y&Y. Over the years I have always had an image or idea of what sort of clothes I’d like to be wearing but never had the confidence to pull off these particular items. Now that I have addressed these issues I feel much more confident and experimental, so much so that I feel the need to change my whole wardrobe (If only I had the money).

David Beckham is most famous for his swagger on the pitch but it is his swagger off the field that I want to draw attention to. He seems to be able to  switch up his dress sense from wearing joggers and a white T to a tailored suit effortlessly. His outfit choices do not seem forced at all but yet he is still able to push boundaries. this is not to say that there hasn’t been a few misfits along the way but because its David Beckham we are quick to forgive.

It is a wonder what his great sense of style can be attributed to, on top of his own capability of being able to turn heads with his outfit choices I do believe that he is or has been hugely influenced by another style icon. That style icon being none other than his wife Victoria. She is in her own lane when it comes to women’s fashion, something which really makes a difference in my opinion of a female (I believe if you can’t dress well then I can’t f**k with you)

Victoria has her own successful clothing line and has managed to convince David to stay in LA for the foreseeable future to help her work on the expansion of this brand. This expansion includes starting a menswear division housed under brand David Beckham. His input to this line will be crucial and is much needed in order to give the line a sense of authenticity, people would want to wear clothes that they know Beckham would wear himself which is why he would be the one to model the clothes.

After about 2 months of tweeting about going to the Maison Martin Margiela ’20′ Exhibit, I finally paid a vist yesterday along with Reena aka Fashion Dreamer for all you internet celebrity stalkers. Unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to take photographs in the actual exhibition, which majorly sucked. The exhibition itself was dope, I’ve never seen such clever use of the colour white before. I guess you could categorise the brand as minimalist, provocative, kind of grunge and underground. One of the most remarkable characteristics of Martin Margiela is the consistent use of white – in the exhibition I’m sure I saw at least 50 different shades of white; from the clothes, to the interiors, stages and even the exhibition itself was all white. Even the simple Helvetica logo with the circle around is aesthetically pleasing. The whole exhibition inspired me on many different levels, in fact I’m going to start designing a version 2 of the site in the next hour. I’ll hopefully have it done in the next 2 weeks so I can send it off to a coder! I shall leave you with a few photographs from that day.

I love Somerset House. It never ceases to amaze everytime I go there, the architecture, the vibe and even the weather was perfect.

I wanted Reena to be my model for the day but she was quite shy! then she flipped reversed it and asked if I liked being photographed in public? My answer was no. She won. Female readers take note of her style, check out her dope jewellery.

I’ve never paid much attention to GANT before but this video amazes me. The head designer Christopher Bastin has done a great job with some of the pieces, especially like the varsity jacket and the knitwear. The layering is amazing! this is exactly why I love the Fall/Winter season. If you’re wondering what the song is, it’s by U.S. Royalty – ‘Equestrian’. It’s not out yet but when it drops, It’ll be definitely featured in Eargasms!

Anyone who knows about Parisian fashion will know about Colette. They’re renowned for their high fashion exclusives, in fact Kanye even flew in from the US for a pair of limited edition sneakers. To celebrate Vogue’s Fashion Nights Out, Timberland have teamed up the French boutique to create a limited set of Lumber jackets. It comes in a black/blue pattern with light tan/beige leather detailing. It’s limited to 73 pieces worldwide and will launch on October 11th. More images after the cut.
