The Turning Point Festival is a three day festival created and controlled by young people all 25 yrs old and younger. Every year the festival will feature the best UK artists as well as up and coming artists across all genres. The festival will be taking place at London’s Roundhouse from Friday 17th until Sunday 19th September 2010. Headliners this year include the likes of Professor Green, Roll Deep and Ms Dynamite- tickets range from £15 – £38 but we’re giving away weekend tickets for two! Find out how after the cut.

More Info About The Festival & Roundhouse…

Last year the festival was a huge success where it completely sold out and now its back again this year to bring you a festival jam packed with quality live music, dance, comedy, cabaret and loads more! As I briefly mentioned before this project is orchestrated by a group of young creatives all 25 and under and since launch have seen great success and no doubt this year will be the same especially with a line-up of over 300 artists! The Roundhouse have a commitment to empower young people by allowing them to engage in projects and nurture talent and this festival plays a big part in getting young people involved as well as inspiring people like me and you to make use of skills. The best thing about this festival is that it is genuinely about growth and helping young people nurture their talent and open doors to various opportunities.

Bruno Mars @ YoYo Recap

So a few nights ago, we hit up Notting Hill Arts Club after work to go see Bruno Mars perform his first ever UK shindig. You’ve all heard a song that he’s created/helped create in the past 12 months, I guarantee you. However the night didn’t start the best of ways…find out after the cut.

My friend who usually helps us skip the queue is out of town working on her tan so we had to queue up. Anyone who has been to the Arts Club will know of it’s infamous queues. We got there around 8:30 and stayed outside till 10! >.<

By the time we had got in, we had already missed half of Mike Posner‘s set. It was a fan girl filled crowd that night thanks to the 2 headlining acts. The usual hiphop heads to the back seat in the seated area which was where I was stood, the only downfall of this side was the view, the photos aren’t the greatest. Apologies!

From what I saw, Mike Posner killed his set as the crowd were going nuts. He performed ‘Save Your Goodbye‘, ‘Bow Chicka Wow Wow’ and ‘Cooler Than Me‘. The latter being one of my favourite songs of Summer 09. An year later the UK has finally heard it, damn slow!

The crowd was ready for Bruno! I spotted his songwriting partner from The Smeezingtons come out, Philip Lawrence so I knew Bruno wouldn’t be too far behind. I was shocked by his height! He’s tiny, almost as short as my Filipino friend then again Bruno does have a bit of Filipino heritage.

He kicked off his set with ‘Other Side‘ but the sound was eff’d up at that point so couldn’t really hear his vocals. The live band were on point as he went on to sing ‘Billionnaire’, ‘Nothin‘ On You‘ but both with his own twist. He sang the songs that inspired him to write the hooks as an intro, so dope.

He finished off the set with ‘Just The Way You Are‘. Easily one of the most beautifully written and produced songs I’ve ever heard. Bruno showcased his multiple talents by playing a piano intro to the song. It’s one of those feel good love songs, heck I’ll sing it to my future ex-wife. What is it?

What do I do?

Casio G-Shock ‘Winter In August’ Recap

A few days ago we headed down to the Casio event after work to check out what their upcoming collections for their premium watches range as well as their instantly recognisable G-Shock range. I’ll be honest, I’m not a big fan of their ‘classic’ models that were on display in the actual ‘Winter in August’ showroom. I feel if I’m going to spend money on a classic piece it would be from a brand that’s known for it. When I think Casio, I think G-Shock and they haven’t failed me with the new range. There were a lot of collaborations on display but my 2 favourite watches were the new range of Baby-G BGA-200 – I’m not going to wear it don’t worry, it’s a lady’s watch but it’s probably the best timepiece I’ve seen from the Baby-G series. The vibrant colourways with the exuding retro appeal makes it somewhat perfect functional accessory for any outfit. I like the mixture of analogue/digital split screen displays. They’ll be available from G-Shock East for £90.

My other favourite was the Dee&Ricky watch and I wasn’t disappointed when I saw it in person. Definitely the most original collaboration out there at the moment, it’s not due out here for another few weeks. It will be retailing for around £150. Enjoy the rest of the photos.

Guess Press Day @ Gaucho

This week we were invited down to Gaucho, Piccadilly by Sequal to attend Guess’s press day where we we’re given a sneak peak of the new lines of Guess watches for AW10. An afternoon well spent as we got up close and personal with the different stories that make up the new lines; was a well executed event, the venue was well suited and the presentation of the watches was on point. For A/W10, Guess watches come in three very different themes: Urban Casual, Authentic and Euro Sport. Each of these lines are different in terms of style, functions and obviously target audience. Urban Casual watches are more for fashion conscious guys who prefer form over function, the detail on these watches are rather trendy and sport lightweight design with a real smooth feel- definitely a few watches in this category that caught my eye!

The Authentic line features a more classic design for a more sophisticated style. These watches are very simple at first glance in comparison to the others but can still be fashionable with their leather straps coming in a chocolate brown, black or deep blue deeming it versatile- they will go well with anything in your wardrobe. The Eurosport collection I also love because in my opinion the whole sporty watch look is fashionable, I am a fan of chunky watches and this story fuses functionality with edge and style to create the ultimate men’s watch.

Dazed X Converse Emerging Artists Exhibit

In late April, Converse and Dazed launched a competition to find the best emerging artist, a major new award to offer an exciting platform for new artists to showcase their artwork. The competition was open to creative’s under the age of 35 and promised a cash prize of £6,000 to the winner and a £1,000 for four other artists that would reach the shortlist. Along with that they also won the opportunity to exhibit their artwork at the Stephen Friedman gallery. More after the cut.

The winner Peter Ainsworth and shortlisted artists Francesca Anfossi, Steve Bishop, Laura Buckley and Jess Flood-Paddock each taking home a grand for making the shortlist. They will exhibit work at the renowned Stephen Friedman Gallery in London from July 30 to August 21, 2010.

Jay Electronica is coming back to the UK and this time he’s hittin’ up Cargo in the trendy district of Shoreditch. Ever since Jay performed his first London gig at The Jazz Cafe he’s gained alot more recognition and more fans! UFC Coming To The O2

For those who do not know what the UFC is then you need to wake up ASAP. UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) is the elite mixed martial arts (MMA) production company. For those who are into wrestling, boxing and/or jujitsu, you haven’t seen anything until you’ve watched the UFC. Speaking as a bona fide fan I urge all of you reading this post to do your home work and get to know about this monumental and hugely successful company. For the fourth time is three years UFC is coming to the UK. As with most major events that take place in England, UFC 120 will be staged at the now infamous O2 arena on October 16^th. To pay tribute to the fact that the event is based in the UK the UFC have lined up an all British line up. Us Brits will have a fighter to cheer for in each of the main fights including the nights main event featuring, probably the most well know British UFC fighter at the moment, Michael Bisping.

I cannot stress enough to those who love fighting sports and haven’t had the pleasure of witnessing a UFC event; it is one not to be missed. Tickets have been available since July 22^nd but should you not get a ticket you will be able to catch the whole event and watch it unfold on ESPN.

Desigual London Kiss Party

Spanish high street fashion brand Desigual hits the road this summer with the 2010 Kiss Tour, similar to Subject60 with dates in Paris, Berlin and Madrid – reaching London on Wednesday 28th July and taking over Potter’s Field Park in the shadow of the iconic Tower Bridge; Desigual are calling all Londoners to come soak up the sun with an evening of completely free entertainment!

Get your ticket by visiting a Desigual store (Regent Street or Westfield) and picking it up from there! Tickets can be exchanged for exclusive Desigual Kiss Tour T-shirts at the event. The party will kick off at 6pm where Guilty Pleasures and Moshi Moshi (Florence and the Machine’s record label) will take to the stage as Neev and Manny Norte host the event.

A smart marketing technique on Desigual’s part, there could be thousands of people at this event next week and many of them will be going to one of the two Desigual stores in London for their tickets; a great way for the to showcase their lines!
