Weekly Wisdom - We are not meant to be perfect. We are meant to be whole.

Somerset House is beautiful. Previously I’ve only been here for London Fashion Weekend, but yesterday I went in to see an exhibition, Forgotten Spaces. Wonderfully curated in the courtyard, Forgotten Spaces is about looking at the city and considering it’s future development differently. Based on an open competition that invited, artists, architects, engineers, local groups and designers of all kinds to submit proposals for overlooked sites across Greater London, the exhibition showcases the best entries and is an exploration of what might be possible. In the UK and London, changes are underway to the planning system that are aimed at getting as many people as possible involved in shaping their own areas. We are all stakeholders in the area where we live, work and play. Increasingly we will be asked to say what we want from our towns and cities. How will we put the empty land we see everyday to use? Where would you like a new park or market? How will we work together to make change happen? Forgotten Spaces is an opportunity for testing ideas and a chance to put locally inspired proposals out there. The exhibition is part of a growing movement that reconsiders our relationship with the built environment. I left the exhibition inspired and eager to get to work on my own similar projects.
