Weekly Wisdom - We are not meant to be perfect. We are meant to be whole.

I only recently became aware of the artist ‘KOF’ when I heard his current single ‘Looking At Me’, but the Liverpool artist has been in the game for years. Real name Kofi Owusu shows his soulful side on the single, compared to his earlier days when he focused mainly on rapping. The 26 year old doesn’t want to be placed in a box though and describes himself as a rapper/singer-songwriter.

The artist is a very exciting talent for the UK and I believe his soulful sound will be appreciated in the UK scene. He recently revealed he was in the studio with soulful singer Terri Walker, a very promising collaboration seems to be on the cards. In a scene, which is dominated by Euro-pop sounds and the X-Factor, a soulful R&B sound could be just the breath of fresh air that’s needed to rejuvenate the charts.

The current single, which was released on the 25th of September, see’s Kofi asking the question “what you looking at for me for?” to a girl who’s already got a partner, yet she’s still looking his way. A situation a few of us probably been in ourselves. The track itself is a funky laidback tune, accompanied by calm beats and strings. It’s quickly become a favourite of mine due to my love of soul and r&b.

I was drawn to the track after just one listen. I heard it on one of the rare days of sunshine our beautiful London city gave us. After hearing it on radio, I searched for the video online. In the video the sun and summer vibe is alive, as it starts off in a skate park with the ray-bans in full show. The visual is crisp and has a L.A. vibe about it. The grading and colouring in particular are a highlight here, and like the song, the video has made me a big fan of KOF.

This then led me to have a look for other videos that were available online and that’s when I came across ‘Another Day, Another Life’, which shows off Kofi’s striking soulful voice. Along with this video, you can check out the remainder of uploads by the artist on his Youtube channel and view his musical journey thus far.

KOF is definitely one to watch for the coming months and beyond. The continuously relevant Wiley says “KOF’s ability is higher than most of the artists that I have known for years”. Radio DJ Mistajam kept it short, but straight to the point “The Future”. I would agree with both points from the above and I’ll be keeping a close eye on Mr. Owusu, I suggest you do to.
