Weekly Wisdom - We are not meant to be perfect. We are meant to be whole.

Harlem rapper, Ema the Kid talks about his frustration with modern media influences on women and their desire for plastic enhancements, to which he likens to a heroin addiction, over this Selasse produced beat. Interesting concept. I haven’t heard of a rapper speak specifically about this subject on a song for a while, and with the likes of women like Kelly Rowland discussing theiar body battles & plastic surgery in the press recently….Ema the Kid’s chosen  subject is very topical. It is quite apparent that Ema the Kid doubles up as a Film MA grad after watching his video for The Void, edited and directed by the man himself and shot by friends On.CutFilms. Shots from Rodriguez and Maniquis‘, “Machete” and French film, “Enter The Void” are screened by a projector onto the back wall of a smoky room as Ema the Kid spits gospel. The “Enter The Void” clips made me wanna hit that up asap, a film with similar themes to Ema’s, ”The Void“, with tales of emptiness and the modern state of vacous existence, it’s obvious why Ema went for these visuals.

“The Music & Visuals Focus On The Inescapable Influences That Pressurize Women In Our Diverse Society. Concentrating More Specifically On Cosmetic Developments And The Ideal Of “The Perfect Body”. The Essence Of The Smoke Symbolizes The Escape And Therapeutic Calmness One Needs In Order To Find Their True Selves.”

Ema the Kid’s flow on this track reminds me a little of Kanye’s style on the So Appalled track, but other than that, there’s noone that springs to mind to compare Ema to. Always a good thing. You can download his latest project “Bullets and Broads” with production from Origimoz, Cookin’ Soul, Selasse and Wookie Fresh on Bandcamp here or by clicking on the photo below.

Ema the Kid is currently living in London and regularly plays live shows, recent conquests include 333 and Clause Bar. To stay up to date on all things Ema, check out his Twitter Facebook and Tumblr.
