KANO x WILEY x SCORCHER x MIKEY J

>

E.T.

I hardly ever listen to UK ‘hip-hop’ anymore. Mainly because the lyrical content and production just lacks in comparison to our state side counterparts (Wretch rocks though!). Anyone that knew me a few years ago would have known that I was a big fan of Kano but he kind of dropped off. He shows us why he’s still one of London’s best with his verses in this track. Allow that auto-tune though, it’s giving me painful memories of the ‘Rock N Roller’ track. Scorcher? His flow is fire but let’s not talk about the lyrics. I like the overall vibe, reminds me of the Home Sweet Home days. Watch the video here.

WALE x MIGUEL

Lotus Flower Bomb

Mr. Folarin teams up with Jive signee, Miguel for this female-friendly romanticised tale of a one-night stand rendezvous. Simplicity works well here, Wale‘s laidback DC flow combined with mellow, classic mid-noughties R&B production by Sneak Beatz is a sure-fire win. Throw Californian R&B saviour, Miguel into the mix and the result is an instant remedy to the hype rubbish I’ve been hearing from my ex-fave rapper as of late. To hear this during a late Saturday night cruise would be beautiful bliss!

THE WEEKND x FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE

Shake it Out (Remix)

If this isn’t a tune when i hear one, shoot, at least i love it. The creepy kinda whistle throughout the duration of the song is really an added bonus for me. What I really like about this song, is that it really stays true to BOTH artist’s style, something you can be like, ahhhh that’s Florence, ahhh that’s The Weeknd, ahhh that’s dope.

KAVINSKY x LOVEFOXX

Nightcall

Woah. My song of the week, it’s been out for almost a year but only came into my radar on Drive‘s soundtrack. LATE? Yes I know but I know a lot of people won’t have heard this song. . This song is EPIC – romantic 80s vibes with the underlying pop aesthetic of French electro. Recognise the sensual vocals? It’s Lovefoxx of CSS who is coincidently Kavinsky‘s other half. The French and electro just go hand in hand, the song is so perfectly balanced. Doesn’t the film Drive remind you of Vice City? Yes I know the font is the same…

STOOSHE

Betty Woz Gone

Brand new South London girl-trio StooShe tell the story of ‘Betty‘, a drug-addicted casualty of London’s darker culture in this upbeat and catchy offering. Fusing frank and entertaining lyricism with a soulful hook, the girls deliver a refreshing take on this ode to inner-city life.

StooShe, who are already garnering comparisons to Salt’N'Pepa and TLC, are worth keeping an eye on. Their free mixtape, The StooShtape is available online now.
