Weekly Wisdom - We are not meant to be perfect. We are meant to be whole.

Erykah Badu sits down with Youtube channel Out Da Box TV in a 20 minute initmate and intriguingly honest interview where she discusses the Window Seat video, being a Mother, her inspirations, where she fits in amongst modern talent, her plans for the future and her views on the Black family & love in 2011. Badu is without a doubt one of the most inspirational and fearless women of our time and I found this interview not just interesting, but also refreshing. Check it out after the jump.

I look up to an artist like Erykah Badu as a teacher – she has grown, evolved and adapted throughout her entire history – each time coming back better with a whole new message to deliver. However I also find her intimidating. Her confidence and love for herself is overwhelming, in a positive way of course. Badu resonates the kind of confidence that my Mother has always told me a woman rarely learns to embrace and explore until she hits 30 – the dreaded, yet liberating age of the modern woman. I found it totally refreshing to see Erykah discuss her inspirations, plans and opinions in a video where she admits that she doesn’t know everything – even her own future as an artist is not written in stone. I think it’s important for us to take a step back and embrace what’s around us rather than constantly scrambling and fighting to know everything including our own fate and Badu really reminded me of this fact during the interview. She has some really interesting things to say about the Window Seat video, the concept of love and fear and the role of a performance artist – I would definitely recommend taking 20minutes out of your day to peep this video and connect with the legend that is Badu. I am travelling to NYC next week and cannot wait to see her perform at the Rock The Bells festival, in fact this interview just got me even more excited!!
