For those who follow me on twitter (if you don’t then you should be) then you will have seen me tweet that I am #NowPlaying Jhene Aiko many times this past week. I have played certain songs from here mixtape everyday this week, I’ve been blasting her tunes so much that my neighboughs probably know the words to the songs by now. I only came across her after reading about her on ThatGrapeJuice so shout out to them for putting me onto her. Since I have been put onto her I feel that it’s only right that I introduce you all to her too so everybody I present Jhene Aiko.

For those that do know of Jhene Aiko you probably know her as the younger cousin of B2K’s Lil Fizz however this is not true. The whole cousin story was used as a marketing tool to promote both B2k and the girl group TG4 that Jhene was a part of, both of whom were signed to Epic Records via T.U.G. Entertainment.
Aiko ended her affiliation with Epic Records and T.U.G and concentrated on her studies, however all grown up at 23 years old she is back on the music scene and is back with some pretty good music in the form of Sailing Soul(s). Sailing Soul(s) is a free mixtape that she put out in March 2011 and sees appearances from Drake, Kanye and Miguel.
It’s interesting that Drake is featured on the set because to describe Jhene I would say that she is the artist that we all hoped Cassie would be and she is the female equivalent of Drake’s singing voice. By this I mean that if Drake was a female singer I’d picture him or her lol to make these type of songs. Her singing style sounds very drakeish at times.

For me the best songs on the mixtape are the first 4 songs ‘Stranger’, ‘Hoe’ featuring Miguel, ‘July’ featuring Drake and ‘My Mind’ and track 8 ‘Sailing Not Selling’ which features Kanye. Some of which you will notice have been spread across this post.
If this mixtape was put out as an album I wouldn’t be mad at it. To think that it has been given out for free and its better that some of the shit people be charging for is just crazy. This is definitely a must have for those who love some good R&B. Let me know what you think?
