We Passed!

Failure to prepare is preparing to fail. I’m not sure who said that famous quote but I distinctly remember it from one of my secondary school classrooms. The teacher always used to warn us before a major exam and I clearly never learnt my lesson.. Yesterday morning I failed my theory test. To my defence, I only remembered I had a test at 7pm the night before and even then I was slack. I revised using one of the free iPhone apps which clearly didn’t cover all the questions that came up. Assuming my exam was at 9:30am, I got up at 7 to do some last minute cramming. However – needed to check up the location of the test centre to find out my test is at 8:30am. Screwed. Hallelujah! as Alexandra Burke and Leonard Cohen once sang. The wait is finally over, we now have our hands on the first release from Daley‘s upcoming mixtape ‘Those Who Wait’. I heard the song not too long ago when it premiered on the Ronnie Herel show on BBC 1xtra, I think it was last week some time actually. I tried to rip it from BBC iPlayer then I recorded it and was gonna upload it but the crappy quality didn’t do justice to the song, plus I got wind of the fact that it was to soon be uploaded to his YouTube page. Needless to say I love the track, even though we have had to wait longer than expected (*angry face*, Daley I know your reading this but I won’t put you on blast lol) I think it has truly been worth the wait. ‘Game Over’ is a smooth groove from a guy that is really flying the flag for UK soul music, keep it up bro. Everybody check the track on the flipside and let us you what you think and remember Daley will read this so be nice lol.

With Beverly Knight gearing up to release her new album ‘Soul UK’ which is an album full of covers I thought it would be good post one of the original songs that she is covering on the album. The idea came about when I saw her perform this particular song via YouTube and it got me remembering the original. Since viewing her video my head has been non stop nodding to the sounds on me humming the tune. Y’all know by now that I like to take you back, way back to time before I was even born and i’ve said many times that even though i’m young it doesn’t mean that I don’t know my shit lol. Anywho i’m gonna stop boring you with my words and let you get into the track so check it out after the break Junior‘Mama Used To Say’

Tom Cruise is back with another instalment from the Mission Impossible franchise. The new film stars Jeremy Renner, Ving Rhames, British actor Simon Pegg and Robin Thicke‘s sexy ass wife Paula Patton (Oh lord he is one lucky son of a gun lol). Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol as it is officially titled sees Ethan Hunt, Cruise’s character, go undercover as he and his team are blamed for a bomb attack on on Kremlin. However this is all a plan which enables him and his team to operate outside of the agency in order to catch their intended target. The film won’t be released until December so until then we will have to make do with this trailer, have a peak a see whats in store for us come December.

Smart move J. Cole camp. They realise that the Cole’s marketing hasn’t been the best till now, in fact it’s been awful. His debut album needs to get the sales that it deserves, we all know musically it’s going to be the sh*t. So it’s a nice move from Cole’s camp to start a web series giving us an insight into the life of the Fayetteville rapper. Have a gander at the first episode on the reverse, the part with the American vs Canadian thing is jokes! His friend reminds me of a young Mike Epps in Next Friday. Look forward to seeing more from this series, I’m guessing the next episode will be based in London?

For those of you who haven’t scowered the Edwin Denim website as of yet, they have been producing Zines (ED Zine) for a short while now and for their fifth Zine, Edwin have chosen to produce them in colour for the first time. That’s not all, they’re now looking for people to get involved and have their work featured in the Fifth Anniversary ED Zine. The Zine is quite dark and grungy, you’ll find a mixture of illustrations and other artworks along with photography and various articles. Check them out after the cut and also see how you can submit your work.

I maintain my stance about photography/videography not being about the camera you own. A lot of people seem to think photography/videography is all about the equipment involved in creating the art, yes it does play a big part but the most important factor of all is – creativity. We’re all blessed with creativity, some more than others – you just have to experiment. London-based film maker JW Griffiths certainly displays his creativity in this short film. He filmed it all on the Nokia N8 camera! no fancy pancy Canon Mark II used here, just a regular smart phone camera. He won the Nokia Shorts competition 2011 with this, it’s a beautiful film that focuses on a 2 people’s journey from Paris to London till they meet….fate. You have to see for yourselves.
