Three of my favourite things – hip-hop, books and photography.

New York-based photographer Mike Schreiber has captured striking snaps of Hip-Hop royalty over the past 12 years. Shooting the likes of Mos Def, Common, Eminem, Nas and M.I.A, Schreiber has collated many of these images in his new book, ‘TRUE Hip-Hop’.

Shooting professionally since 1997, Mike Schreiber’s work has featured in magazines including Esquire, Rolling Stone, VIBE, XXL and Spin. In this project, Schreiber aims to capture the rawness and the true essence of hip-hop in picture as he exhibits images of the scene’s biggest stars.

MIA Mike Schreiber

This Thursday 19th May, Mike Schreiber launches ‘TRUE Hip-Hop’ to a UK audience with the ‘TRUE Hip-Hop’ exhibition at Shoreditch’s Protein. Presenting 14 images from the book, Schreiber will also participate in a live Q&A session conducted by Zezi Ifore.

If you can’t make the private viewing and book launch, fear not. Curated by Zeyna Sy, the exhibition will be open to the public from Friday 20th May – 26th May. For more information check out Mike Schreiber’s official website.
