Weekly Wisdom - We are not meant to be perfect. We are meant to be whole.

Do you remember the classic courtroom movie “Time to Kill” starring Matthew McConaughey, Samuel L Jackson and Sandra Bullock? If not, I’ll jog your memory. It is the film about the criminal trial of a father (Samuel L. Jackson) who killed the men that raped his young daughter and left her to die. Time to Kill is centered on McConaughey’s character as a defense lawyer and the moral battle he has in defending a guilty man with every moral justification to kill.

Well, Matthew McConaughey has done it again starring as a defense lawyer in the movie Lincoln Lawyer alongside an all-star cast including Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, Academy Award nominee William H. MacyJohn Leguizamo, Josh Lucas and Michael Peña. Except this time, in contrast to ‘Time to Kill’, McConaughey defends a guilty man Louis Roulet (Ryan Phillipe) with no justification to kill.

I am a sucker for courtroom movies, mainly because of my love of legal practice and my respect for what goes into the work of criminal law. In my years training to be a lawyer, lets just say after 2 weeks internship working with a defense barrister on a rape case, I decided criminal law wasn’t for me!

Many people ask the question “What would you do as a lawyer if you knew your client was guilty?” Lincoln lawyer asks this exact question and answers it in such an engaging and thought-provoking way. It starts off relatively slow but the film gains pace with twists and turns that literally had me on the edge of my cinema seat.

That’s all I have without giving too much away. But I highly recommend you to go and see it. Check out the trailer!
