Weekly Wisdom - We are not meant to be perfect. We are meant to be whole.

Kids Co. if you don’t know is a charity organisation that aim to “provide practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children“. The company has been running for just over 15 years now and has done great things for kids all over London and aim to expend their services. They’re looking for passionate people to become Kids co. angels (volunteers), more details after the cut.

The work that they do stems from a psychological angle where they believe that children who have been subjected to trauma, abuse and neglect cope with this by cutting off their capacity to feel. They’re brains mature in such a way that they train themselves to survive, this is what encourages them to grow up feeling a lot of repressed anger. view their philosophy here

I find Kids Co. so inspiring, one of my colleagues also works for them and every time she talks about them you can almost feel her passion not just for what she does but also for the company. They run activities at schools, they run clubs and activities on their own sites, they offer mentoring, health plans, therapy you name it!

There are dozens of volunteering opportunities available to people who are interested. Volunteer work is obviously unpaid and it will take sacrificing some time so it really is best to only consider if you know you have the time to commit. With all of the 10 days I cram into 7 at the moment its not possible but once uni is done this is definitely on the cards!

These are the main things they are currently looking for. You can find a much more detailed explanation on the site.

About Yang

There are so many young people in London without the right guidance in life and don’t know where to turn. My dream is to set up my own company lending support, guidance and advice to young people so I can share everything I have learnt and will learn in the future with people who need it. Anyone sharing a similar vision get at me, we need to talk. Follow me on twitter
