Who still rocks G-Shocks? I own about 5-6 but haven’t worn any in 2011 so far. Mainly because my style has progressed and it doesn’t quite fit in anymore. They have become insanely common in London over the past year or so, the PR have been doing a great job of hosting weekly events at the Shoreditch store. However nearly all the acts they seem to put up are from the Grime scene as I despise the whole genre. Also the crowd these events attracts aren’t great, way too many ‘scene’ kids rock these images. I don’t want to be wearing the same watch as a 15 year old, I don’t know about you but something doesn’t feel right when you see a watch you paid £80 for is rocked by a kid 10 years younger than you! that’s where Amplifyd Concepts comes in. They have spruced up the classic Casio G-Shock silhouettes with a new face and diamantés. We managed to get our hands on a few of the new Spring/Summer collection to review. Right let’s get started. P.S. I decided to use my somewhat e-famous lil cousin for the shoot again, he actually thinks he’s a ‘model’ now. Then again, everyone with an photograph taken on a SLR thinks they are one nowadays! Before I get into it, I recommend you read my G-Shock review as it gives you an idea about the original watch – click here.
Brand History
Amplifyd Concepts are specialists in customising some of the world’s most iconic watches with an exceptional amount of attention to detail coupled with enthusiasm for premium time pieces. The company was started by a group of dedicated watch enthusiasts and collectors from all over the world. Years of planning, design and engineering in remaking and re-imagining what an iconic watch can look like – they truly amplify the original concept of these watches. The results? cutting edge watches with unique colour combinations, platings, design and ideas which make them limited edition wearable works of art. You can read more about the watch making process here.
The Watches
The first thing I noticed in all the watches was the cubic zirconiums, it’s shiny, flashy and all that jazz. You can tell they take pride in the quality of their products as everything was level, no bumps or uneven stones. Another thing I noticed, the original colour model mask is also in the box which means you can remove the Amplifyd stone mask and replace it original. Why would you want to do that though huh?
The first set of watches we got our hands are customised versions of G-Shock‘s DW-5600 model. I’m loving the red & gold colour combination, it would go nicely with me matching red blazers & red cap #gahhipsters. This is my favourite of the 4, the custom built surgical grade stainless steel face place is on POINT. It’s bonded with 18k gold plating with 200 Cubic Zirconiums. Each of them were apparently hand set, eeesh talk about manual labour. Like I said earlier, there is nothing uneven! it’s all level and straight like it was machine crafted. All that work and the price is only £120 more than the bog-standard watches.
The watch comes in 2 colour ways: Red & Gold, Blue & Purple. Peep the imagery below.

The iconic G-Shock silhouette everyone recognises. It’s one of the most solid watches I’ve ever come across, definitely built to last as I’ve dropped mine approximately 539 times now. Just a rough estimation. The DW-6900 also gets amplifyd but this model unlike the one above is bonded with titanium carbide with over 275 emerald blue cubic zirconiums. Have a gander at the images below.

Final Thoughts
If you’re bored of your traditional G-Shocks or just bored of seeing everyone where the same watch as you then Amplifyd Concepts is the way to go. Rocking something that not many people won’t be able to get their hands on is definitely a good feeling. I’ll leave you with some imagery.
