I think you’ll all agree that 2010 was a really intense year, from Volcanic eruptions to collapsing mines there were quite a few catastrophic events and stories that influenced the world one way or another. I’ve put together a list of 5 events/ scenarios that I think caused an impact in our lives.

With two major earthquakes, it wasn’t a great start to 2010. Haiti and Chili were both hit with devastating 7.0 and 8.8 magnitude earthquakes, Haiti taking the most damage. Haiti have been rebuilding but have since seen an outbreak of Cholera which has obviously made it even harder to rebuild. I know we’ve already asked you guys to donate once before but I know we have new regular readers since then so please donate if you can! Click here to donate
Earlier on in 2010 we had an election, which lead to a change in Government. A big change indeed it is for Londoners especially. These lot have already decided to raise the cap for University fees and increase VAT by 20%… excited. But still a triumph non-the less since the BNP did not come into power. A lot of press surrounded this, we also covered the astonishing moment when Nick Grittin attended question time (I’m cheating because this is kind of 2009 too but its all part of the same issue). This bloody thing that no one can even pronounce caused very unnecessary disturbance all over the world. Hundreds of people were stranded abroad or unable to travel- those flying with Ryan Air will surely remember how Michael O’Leary refused to compensate them! We were one of the lucky ones to make it to New York in May. Although I would have been more than happy not to fly if it meant it would be safer to fly another time! Even though Eyjafjallajökull was a pain in the ass, she’s still incredibly beautiful- I posted this video when we were in New York, watch it it’s good.
On the 5th of august 33 minors were trapped 2,300 feet underground; that’s the length of the Eiffel Tower, which is jaw dropping. To know these guys survived is a testament to how much technology has evolved, had this have happened even a few years ago perhaps the minors may not have survived. Now the miners are out and getting used to their new found fame, watch the moving video of a surfacing Chilean minor.
This is pretty recent, the Wikileaks…For those that don’t know what it’s about: WikiLeaks is an organisation that publishes submissions of private, secret, and classified media from anonymous news sources and leaks. Not too long ago I posted a documentary which was created by Swedish television network SVT.
