Music News Weekly is back under a new guise and on a new day. Honestly I haven’t been keeping up with regular updates of this post due to time issues and I suppose laziness but its back and today it is bigger than ever. Music News Monday is here with an extensive list of news stories in the world of music that has surfaced this past week. This week’s edition features new from Drake, Rihanna, Dr Dre, Pink, and a few more but to start things off I have a huge announcement from Janet Jackson.

Janet Jackson
For quite a while now fans and media outlets have been posing the question to Miss Jackson, when will we hear new music from you? Well she answered those questions a few weeks ago when she stated that she does intend to record new music, probably next year sometime but she wants to take her time with it.
Fans have been worried that Jackson had deserted her musical roots for the silver screen in light of her recent succession of films. This week saw the announcement that is sure to ease fans questioning her commitment to music. Janet Jackson is going on tour and not just any tour but a world tour, her biggest world tour to date.
To celebrate the release of her number ones greatest hits album and all 35 of her number 1 hits. the task of deciding what cities around the world she should visit has been handed to the fans. 35 cities in total will be selected – 1 for each of her number 1 hits. With only 35 dates scheduled, Janet may only be able to visit one or two cities in each country, so you’ll have to be quick to make sure you don’t miss out on what is sure to be an amazing show. I know I will definitely be on the lookout for when the tickets go on sale.

Nicki Minaj
For a quick minute now Nicki Minaj has been has had to deal with a number of accusations that she has swagger jacked a certain Lil Kim. Stories of beef between the two female rappers have been rife but I never believed any of them until I saw a video of Lil Kim slamming Minaj stating that she could kill Nicki with her old music.
As far as I’m aware Minaj has never said a bad word about Kim until now. Yes people have assumed that Roman Revenge was indeed intended for the ears of Kim but it could be argued that the song never makes reference to any other female rapper directly so all talk of a Lil Kim diss is purely media hype.
In light of Kim’s blatant disregard for Nicki’s talent and current hold on the urban music industry Nicki has responded in what can only be described as ‘Speaking The Truth’ peep what she had to say while being interviewed by Angie Martinez on Hot 97.
In other Nicki Minaj related news, finally after much anticipation and hype surrounding the Young Money affiliate her debut album Pink Friday has officially gone on sale from today. Many songs from the album have been leaked but we here at Yin&Yang would like to promote the purchasing of good music. Minaj has delivered some fire on her guest features over the past year so it will be interesting to see whether or not she is able to bring that same heat to her own solo venture.
As stated before many songs have been leaked from the album so I have selected two for you guys to enjoy. Firstly the track entitled ‘Fly’ features pop princess Rihanna and would be a good selection for a single in order to gain mainstream appeal. True it may not be the best song on the album capitalising on Rihanna’s oblivious mainstream appeal in the US and certainly here in the UK would be a smart move by Nicki’s camp in order to push more sales of the album.
Secondly a newly surfaced track called ‘Girls Fall Like Dominos’. Once agin this track definitely has the mainstream appeal she needs in order for the album to be a worldwide success
Dr Dre
Its often said that no news is good news but in the case of Dr Dre some news is way better than no news. In a rare interview with Power 106’s Big Boy the producer talked about his much delayed highly anticipated album Detox along with the new buzz single ‘Kush’ featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon which surfaced this week. Check what the elsusive rapper had to say below:
On the status of Detox… “I see the finish line right now. I’m wrapping it up. I need about two or three more songs and hopefully I’ll start the mixing process at the end of next month. And from that point I’m about 30 days out.”
On why Detox took so long… “I felt like I was doing it more out of obligation as opposed to just really feeling it. As of last year, I’ve been really feeling where it’s going and I think I’m ready. Hopefully, I won’t disappoint.”
On “Kush,” the leaked single from Detox, featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon… “There was a version of it that leaked that I wasn’t really happy about, so we’re gonna go on and push it and put it out because everybody seems to like it. I just thought that the content of it, it’s about weed smoking, and I don’t want people to think that that’s what my album is about. This is actually the only song with that type of content in it. It’s not a representation of what the album is.”
On his plans for Detox… “We plan on doing maybe about six videos and we’ve been talking about touring. I’m not positive about that, but I definitely want to do it.”
On the state of hip-hop… “It’s aight. There are a lot of artists that I like, I love Wayne, I love Drake, I love the new artist J. Cole. There’s some new brothers coming out on my record, SLim the Mobster, he’s out of South Central. I think it could be better and hopefully I can do my part to assist in that.
As mentioned before a new buzz single dropped earlier this week, take a listen to it and have your say. Is it the Dre we have been waiting for? Is it what you expected? Does he need to come harder when the album finally drops?
Rihanna
She may only just released her fifth studio album Loud but that hasn’t stopped Rihanna from already planning her next world tour. Yes she is planning to go on tour once again despite the fact she has yet to finish the Australian, Brazilian and Asian leg of her Last Girl On Earth tour. It is with announcement like these that I fear for music stars health and sanity. Constantly on the move with little or no sleep will eventually take its toll on Riri and that long awaited break that some feel she needs and others wished she take will happen.
“Yes, we’re gonna tour,” she told Hot 97′s Angie Martinez. “Actually, we have to finish up my Australian leg of my Last Girl On Earth tour, and we’re gonna go to Asia and Brazil. And then we’re gonna come back, regroup, rehearse, and go out on the Loud world tour. That’s gonna launch in the Summer.”
Along with discussing her plans to tour she also went on to say that the third single from the album will be selected by fans.
“The fans are gonna determine that one,” she told Elvis Duran when asked what Loud’s next single would be, “because we’re toying between a couple. Maybe “S&M”, maybe “Cheers”. Those are the ones that seem to be requested the most.”
Is it me or are Rihanna and her camp rolling out the release of new singles as if we haven’t heard new music from her in six years. At this rate we will be in a situation where all the singles needed to be released from the album will come out before the year’s end which would then require a re-release and some new tracks in order to keep people interested for when her tour comes round again. The way it’s going I can see a new Rihanna album being released the middle of next year. I know she likes to throw albums out left right and centre but this is just no funny anymore.
She has lost the ability to ramble on and give the normal spill artists do about their new album being more personal and showing growth because she doesn’t leave enough time between albums to allow growth or to even experience new things. Her life seems to be one big routine, music video after music video album after album and tour after tour, I suggest that after this campaign she takes a long break and come back in like 2014 or something. Drake
While accepting an award from GQ Drake announced the title of his next album. The album is to be called Take Care. Drake’s Thank Me Later was a platinum smash around the world, spawning the hits ‘Over’ and ‘Find Your Love’ but Drizzy’s not resting on his debuts success, even claiming that he may have made mistakes in the album’s production, promising that his second album would make up for any shortfalls.
Pink
Pink popped by The Ellen Degeneres Show on Wednesday to confirm rumors she and her husband Carey Hart are expecting their first child.
“I didn’t want to talk about it because I was just really nervous and I have had a miscarriage before but if I was going to talk about it with anyone, it was going to be with you,”
Congratulations to Pink we her at Y&Y are always happy to hear news of such great nature.
Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera has confirmed that she is currently in the studio working on a new album. The singer revealed that she has been inspired by her new film, ‘Burlesque’, and that she is a “changed woman”. Check out what she had to say below:
“Ohhh, a new album is definitely in the works, because after coming off of Burlesque, I left that movie becoming a completely and totally changed woman, having learned so much and grown so much. I really grew wings on that movie I didn’t know I had prior and I am in a very introspective time in my life right now, getting ready to turn the big 3-0 this year, at the end of the year, on December 18th, yeah! I am very, very excited about that.
Yeah, I am really looking forward to the next chapter in my life and really putting the new person I’ve become on record.”
