University has kicked started again so I’ve been bombarded with adverts in class so this post features more adverts than the usual. If ya’ll are lacking inspiration then these should certainly provide. It’s hard to be unique and original these days but one brainwave can change all that.

1. AXA Insurance: iPhone Print iAd
Like I was saying in the introduction to the post, it’s very hard to come up with something original these days but Duval Gulliame Antwerp Agency have managed to do it well with this AXA advert to promote their iPhone app launch. They’ve come up with an innovative new form of advertising that they call the I-Ad incorporating Apple’s iPhone. This print ad requires your iPhone to complete the message, you have to type in the URL and place it over the ad. I personally feel they should have used a code/scanner type thing to start the advert rather than having the user manually type in the address.
2. WWF: Tree, Ice
Interesting campaign print campaign here from Spanish agency Jaleo for WWF. They’re trying to highlight the fact that we are doomed if we keep cutting down trees or letting the Arctic ice melt. What caught my eye was the quality of the graphic design, very well put together. Simple and clear message.
If the ice falls, we all fall. | If the tree falls, we all fall.
3. French Connection: Brave, Eat meat, Curves, Dance, Child
I am a big fan of FCUK‘s campaigns this past year, all of them featuring the same models. The beardyman has done them wonders! This latest set of print ads feature their subtle sense humours alongside very well shot photographs with bold typography. It gets the funny message across, I’m sure they’re not trying to be the voice of the generation with statements such as ‘Don’t Dress Like A Child’ but funny nonetheless.
4. Virgin Atlantic’s 2010 Global Campaign
I don’t think I’ve ever been on a Virgin Atlantic journey and after watching the advert, I still don’t think I want to. It’s a really well made advert with a punchy tagline but it’s metaphorical outlook on a Virgin journey flight that just seems way too fake. They have tried to give that James Bond-esque glamorous feel to the world of airlines using sexy stewardesses in red stilettos, suited men walking through X-ray machines, pole-dancing around giant forks, clouds as beds and much more. It’s part of their new Global campaign and apparently it costs around $9.5 million. The creative team behind the stunning visuals are of course, Partizan.
5. Yeo Valley Advert
BBH won the £5 million Yeo Valley account back in March and last night they premiered the first advert during the X-factor ad-breaks and people on Twitter went crazy over it! to the point that it was a trending topic. One of my friends gave me the heads up on it. It’s a funny advert and definitely gives the brand the fresh new direction they wanted. Maybe they can do a Cravendale with this campaign? I’m hoping they release this as a single, the rapping is definitely better than the N-Dubz and Roll Deep whackness you hear on the radio.
6. Pink Ribbon: Alive & Kicking, Create, Love & Friendship, Stronger, Survived, Won
Grey Amsterdam are behind these wonderful ads for Pink Ribbon Magazine’s 2010 edition. It’s a solid campaign using some dope imagery and powerful copy. Here’s what the Grey MD had to say on it “As humans we all need to feel a sense of community, a sense of belonging. There seems to be an invisible bond, an inexplicable connection, between women. Our campaign for Pink Ribbon 2010 amplifies this sense of belonging. It establishes a feeling of ‘We’re in this together’ against breast cancer, and encourages a willingness to show support.”
7. Panda: Never Say No To Panda
This has got to be one of the funniest adverts I have seen all year. We watched it earlier this week in a lecture and the whole class cracked up. Panda is an Egyptian manufacturer of cheese and dairy products and they have recently revamped their ad campaign thanks to agency Elephant Cairo. A small agency that only has a team of four men! They’ve already won awards at Dubai Lynx Advertising awards. I don’t know how they came up with the idea of ‘if you don’t like/eat/refuse Panda products, the cute looking Panda will kick yo’ ass’. This is the best use of dark and subtle humour I have seen in ages. If you’re wondering whether the dairy product contain any Panda ingredients like me, well they don’t contain anything! it’s just regular milk.
That’s all for today folks,
Yin.
