I first heard of this place when someone at work mentioned it in the office Skype chat and after a quick glance, I dismissed them for a lame western attempt at Indian food. This was clearly my inner-Indian calling out, I really don’t like paying for Indian food when I can get it at home for free. 90% of the restaurant food is flavourless and no where near as spicy enough for my ethnic taste-buds. However during our company meeting, Mathew from Mooli’s dropped by to share some Mini-Mooli’s and explain a bit of background of the food chain. Continues after the cut.

As always being a graphic designer means that the first thing I notice is the design on the menu he had handed out. Everything was spot on – colours, fonts and layout. What grabbed my attention the most was their story, the fact that guys have worked their asses off travelling around the motherland in search of the best recipes. I could go into detail about the story but I’d rather copy it off their site as it’s a Sunday afternoon and I’m way too tired.
…quirky sense of humour. Funny thing is I’m from Kerala as well and my Dad works at that bank. Amazing.
The Food & Menu
My initial negative reaction towards them was because of the menu, it’s so different to any Indian cuisine I’ve seen before. I’ve never seen ingredients such as apple and pomegranate used in Indian cuisine before. I bet it’s common and quite oblivious to such things related to food. ‘can’t cook, won’t cook’ has been my saying for a few years now but I kinda want to learn now. Just to impress the ladies of course. Have a gander at the Menu below:
It’s such a vibrant menu, great mix of flavours and different meats. It’s not hard to guess which one I tried first – Keralan Beef and damn I was a blown away. It actually tasted like the food I buy from the little restaurant in the corner of my Dad’s town in Kerala. Major food-gasm, or infact a mooli-gasm. The spicyness was just about right for me, it’s not too hot for ya’ll! trust me. Take for example, Nando’s – I always buy extra hot food and add extra extra hot sauce to it and it’s still on that hot for me. The beef was perfect so I’m sure the goat mooli would have been in tears.
Final Thoughts
Great food, great price, exceptional Indian flavours. It’s delicious food on the go, I’m actually going to pop by on my lunch break tomorrow. Join me.
