The Intern

posted in yin&yang by Yin

I thought I’d give everyone a little update of my internship, well I’m hoping someone out there reads this post. Ya’ll are probably thinking ‘hmm so the honeymoon period is over and he must be hating it now’ nope, I’m still loving it. More of my jibba jabba after the cut.

Wake up at 6:35 if all goes to plan and I don’t put my alarm to snooze. Get up, browse around the net/Y&Y for 20 before hitting the shower. Leave home by 8 to embark on my epic journey – walk, bus, tube, walk, work. I haven’t been to work late yet, in fact I’ve been early nearly everyday. Never late is always better, punctual is my middle name.

Usually by 2-3pm, I’ll be tired due to the lack of sleep and that sets off my low on caffeine body alarm. I sprint out of the office to the café in the corner for a double shot of macchiato. A much needed caffeine injection. At work, this week has been quite challenging as the team I work in is one man short with the team director away on holiday. There was a major deadline on the Friday so as you know everything got a little bit hectic in the last few days. What I had to do? Compiled a few reports such as rival competitor social media coverage stats, related Facebook groups/pages stats, upcoming events. I also dabbled in a bit of design as I gave them a new look for all their social media pages – blog, facebook, twitter, youtube.

As you  can imagine work is busy and productive so I don’t really notice the time fly by and the day finally ends around 6:30. However on occasion I’ve stayed longer to finish off bits and pieces. After work I’m pretty much zombified for socialising with friends, I don’t know if that’s a bad thing or not. I’m just an intern and already I find it hard to socialise with others outside of work as after work I run home to do work. Work as in working the site, you do know we have at least 6-7 posts up on a daily basis. The later I come home, the later I have to stay up writing the posts. Most of the time I’ll be writing posts on my blackberry on the empty district line train back to East London. Now I’m about halfway through my internship and I don’t want it to end, I want this  forever.

So much is going to happen in the next 12 months, it’s make or break.

Senior Year. Dissertation. Graduation. 2011.
