L.G.R is an Italian eyewear manufacturer of high-end glasses and sunglasses, started by Luca Gnecchi Ruscone in 2007. Luca Gnecchi Ruscone, whose initials inspired the brand’s name, established the company after having made a trip to Africa in 2006. There he visited an optical store owned by his grandfather where he discovered a box of sunglasses which had been imported from Italy 50 years earlier. After having returned to Italy with the sunglasses, Luca began to receive many requests for the frames. He then decided to start a business. And so L.G.R was born. L.G.R founder Luca Gnecchi Ruscone discovered a box of sunglasses dating back to the colonial period in an old family-owned warehouse. Fascinated by the history and design of these frames, Luca took a handful back to Italy and as word of mouth quickly spread he was overwhelmed by demand for the glasses. He decided to track down the original Artisanal factory that had produced the frames and re-opened it, manufacturing small quantities of authentic, handmade sunglasses of premium quality and style.
“Some years ago I was in Eritrea, Africa, wandering through my grandfather’s old warehouse of Italian imports, when I discovered a model of sunglasses from a time long forgotten. These beautiful designs, immediately evoked the romanticism of an era long gone by. The merging of two worlds; the adventure of Africa and the glamour of the Riviera. I returned to the original manufacturers and created a line capturing this timeless elegance.”
