If you’re not aware of the forgoing Haitian presidency bids click here and read my previous post. Last Friday Wyclef Jean’s bid for candidacy was rejected on the basis of residency by the election-bureau despite meeting all the requirements set out by law.

Wyclef: “I respectfully accept the committee’s final decision, and I urge my supporters to do the same. This has come to our party and to our group as a total shock. I want to assure my countrymen that I will continue to work for Haiti’s renewal; though the board has determined that I am not a resident of Haiti, home is where the heart is — and my heart has and will always be in Haiti. This ruling just tells me that I can’t officially seek the office of president.”

Since then his lawyers have appealed to challenge the recent rulings since there was no legal mechanism (at the time of the November election) for contesting an election- eligibility decision. Whether or not they will change their mind is another question.

At least one of the 19 candidates Leslie Voltaire thinks that Jean should be allowed to run. A clever political tactic brewing in the mist me thinks.

What are your thoughts?

As Russell Simmons would say ‘this is politricks’.
